Default :::The Great Van Halen Mind!$%

Since we've got nothing to talk about (yet), here's a childhood memory which I have entitled: "The Great Van Halen Mind!$&"

I have an Uncle who lived with us for a couple of years when I was a kid, and he was someone who loved to play chess.

At the time, I was 9 or 10, and there was no way I could match his wits, until I discovered my secret weapon: Van Halen.

I'd let my Uncle get comfortable into the game, and once he had settled in, out came my Fair Warning LP. The most productive songs were "Mean Street," "Dirty Movies," "Sunday Afternoon In The Park," and "One Foot Out The Door." Following this aural assault might be "Eruption," "Intruder," etc

Of course, I was having a ball; beaming with pride, a kid showcasing the incredible talent of his guitar hero: Eddie Van Halen.

A few songs into it, my Uncle's chess moves would falter; I couldn't help but laughingly ask: "Just what are you doing?? Why did you move there??"

I can still see his hands waving in the air, expressing exasperation: "I can't concentrate when this is on; who is this??? What is this that you're playing??? I CAN'T PLAY WITH THIS ON" (enter EVH's world famous dive bomb!)

Soon after, the game would be mine.

    Thank you, Edward Van Halen
"If only Eddie, Alex and Wolfgang had as much enthusiasm about Van Halen as Dave, Sammy and Mike do … " - I Coulda Hada VH

"I don't think he owes us, and I think few if any do. What we would like is for him to release music, since he is our favorite musician. It's a wish and a hope, not a critique." - Dave's Dreidel

At first glance I thought the title was "The Greta Van...." and almost stopped reading.

That sometimes gets lost in translation over the web...

I am kinda surprised that this thread went over like a lead balloon.

Am I the only poster who used Van Halen to his own advantage?

Hell, if memory serves, our military played Van Halen to demoralize the enemy during the Desert Storm conflict.

    Well...to each his/her own, I suppose .
