OU812 - actually one of my favorite Van Halen albums overall. Finish What You Started and Black and Blue are two of my favorites. Love the solo on Cabo Wabo. I never really got into 5150 - Best of Both Worlds stands out for me on there. Just never liked the drums and overall the whole thing seemed really cheesy to me. I know it's Sammy's first album with VH, but never understood why it gets all the love it does. Just my two cents! I love Eddie's playing on FUCK and overall how it was recorded. Eddies playing on it seems to the most "in the pocket" of any Van Halen album - just sit back and play with the band as opposed to the pyrotechnics all over the place (which there are of course). But just seems more in the zone and in my opinion some of his best playing is on it. Love the tone.

    FUCK
    OU812

Stopped listening to the last two a long time ago, but I still dig me some Balance. 5150 is like 1984 to me, just simply tired of it.

FUCK and RHRN are like that for me... 1984 and 5150 are near and dear (1984 is still and always will be my favorite VH album; not too bad for a 'Sam guy') yet the 1st two I mentioned are ultra special from a sentimenal point of view.

The RHRN tour was my first VH concert experience. Front row, no less... NOTHING will ever take the place of that to me! Hands down, bar NONE.

I will say Balance hands down for me. Minus CSLY and Strung Out. I have always loved Amsterdam and Seventh Seal.

Edís tone on that album is the best of the Hagar era 4-pack.

Listened to OU812 on the way home tonight. Really a great album in need of a remix. But confirmed once again tonight to be my favorite Sam era album.

0U812 is my favorite. Mainly because of it's diversity. Finish What Ya Started, Feels So Good, Mine All Mine & When It's Love are my favorites on it. I really love all the Hagar albums though.

There is some definite filler on it. It just isn't a "just push play" classic album. I could come up with a hundred albums before I would get to 5150. I would come up with a lot before I got to a VH record period.

Balance has been my favorite Sam era for years. It sounds great, the playing on it is spot on, they let Mike out of his box a little bit (just a little). There are holes in it, Doin' Time, Strung Out, and some lyrical felonies by Sam. But overall, it's highs are just so good. A great hint at what they could have been as they matured more as a band. With a stronger personality at the helm, this could have truly been an epic album. Take off some of the trash, and say to Sam on a few songs "dude, you can do better, sharpen your pencil", it would have been remarkable. With the warts it has, it is still damn good.

Yeah I’d likely go with Quadrophenia as my desert island album to be honest. Or Abbey Road.
