Van Halen isn’t known as anything other than a hair metal band in the UK. We know their greatness but those in the UK that will have heard of them at all will lump them in with Bon Jovi, Europe and Poison.

The hard truth is, thatís pretty much the mainstream perception here in the States as well.

VH is neither, as we know. But the masses....they lump 'em in with the rest of that time period.

Sadly, the success of 1984 and the popularity of the MTV videos for the record played a major part in them being included in the Hair band genre.
Those videos were the blue print for hair bands in the future. They tried to be cool like VH, in every way, but just ended up looking like hacks.

Totally agree. I just could never find interest in Dave minus VH.

I don't know, man, I've always thought of Van Halen as a Hair Band. But they fall into the Hair Band niche titled "Hair Bands that we say aren't Hair Bands because we like them." Tesla also falls into this category for reasons unknown. I'm sure there are a couple more?

For me, Hair Bands rule and VH is the leader of the pack.
