You better buy a hardwood so you get some dimensional stability at least.

Moisture sensitive Plywood or softwoods wont help much in that dept

Whoah, this place is starting to sound like TDPRI

I'd like to see a horn snap off a plywood body...ain't gonna happen
Heck, when the tree huggers get their day, there won't be nothing but bamboo, and bamboo plywood anything.

If it sounds good...it is good!

Has anyone taken the backplate off their EVH striped series and if so, was there a block of wood in there preventing the trem from being pulled back or is the claw screwed as far back as poss?

Technically plywood just means "plies of wood." You can have mahogany plywood and rosewood plywood. This is what the back and sides of my Yamaha acoustics are (also called "laminate"). The layers of wood glued together are what give it more strength and make it resistant to cracks, which single ply "solid woods" are prone to.

Blofeld, I sorta had this question in mind when I replied in your "Building a guitar..." thread,
