You have some of the best builds I have ever seen Jedi.

I think your Modded Wolf Standard is Sweet too. I remember Liquid Charlie having a couple or 3 Kick Ass Modded Wolf Standards in some of his videos.

My favorite guitar is my Sterling AX3 that I got brand new for $200. Would I like to change the bridge and tuners? Yes, because they're not as good as the rest of the guitar. Everything else about it is just perfect. It's super resonant, plays great, and I'm not afraid to let it leave the house like I sometimes am with my American Standard Strat.
    I'm just here.

I suppose Jedi is right. Not every piece of wood is gonna be good. Probably duds in every model.
I would tend to think the cheap stuff would have more duds though. They cut corners on everything else.

Coming from the guy who can play the solo from On Fire, been around music stores yet is clueless about standalone pedals vs multi fx units, can name wood and pickup specs in guitars etc.and can't pull off a pick slide? Riiiiiight...

What's so hard about that solo?
I'm not clueless, Robert. Pedals cost money I didn't have at the time.
Never said I couldn't do one. Said I had trouble when it's a quick turnaround. Like Over the Mountain solo Up on the whammy, Big slide, then into the bar chords real quick. The pick is not in picking position. It's tough for me to get picking again that fast.
    I'm getting there though.

I get sidetracked. Learned some cool Asato licks I've been obsessed with.

Good call about buying online but no physical shops near me sell second-hand guitars that were cheap when new.
It's a bit controversial to say to guitar aficionados, but if it's electric, the type of wood isn't that important. Obviously you don't want something with a giant knot in it or something that makes it look hideous, but the science says that the wood is almost meaningless in terms of tone. You'll get a much larger difference in the pickup, the setup, the pick and how hard you use it, the trem, etc. Besides the physics behind it, there's dozens of videos out there doing blind A/B tests that show it doesn't make a difference, so I wouldn't get too hung up on that.

I'm just speaking about the wood, though. The craftsmanship, the frets, the finish, etc. are all part of the equation on the price of a guitar as well.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

I donít know about that dude I have the same pickups in two different guitars. One is maple and one is alder and they sound completely different. Woods do make a difference. Itís not just about setups and pickups. Where are you getting your information from that types of woods have no bearing on electric guitars? Science says? Iíd like read where youíre getting that from. Thereís dozens of videos where guitars sound totally different than other guitars with the same stuff so it goes both ways.

I donít think itís a massively huge difference on an electric guitar but there definitely is a difference in the type of woods used. I also agree that focusing on things like pickups, set ups, and good hardware can make an even bigger difference. But donít think you can make a guitar that is made of plywood sound as good as one made of ash because it simply is not true.

Yeah, wood for sure makes a difference.

It's not as simple as "Alder sounds like X and basswood sounds like Y" though - I think each species has its range and the tone falls somewhere in a spectrum.

Example: both of these guitars have alder bodies, basswood necks, Floyds, and EVH Wolfgang bridge pickups. The only difference structurally is the fretboard wood. The grey guitar has rosewood and weighs an extra 1.5lbs. On paper there shouldn't be that big of a difference, but in practice the grey guitar sounds a lot fatter than the red one.

I’ve always been shocked at the difference in resonance a big brass block makes compared to the stock Floyd block. Especially in a basswood body. To me, it’s comparable to the difference between rosewood & maple fretboard. A deep warmth in tone.

Yeah those big blocks are awesome. I need to start putting them on all my Floyds. My Rasta is the only one I have it on.

I have just finished putting brass blocks in all my Floyd Rose trems. Makes a huge difference.

I really need to check out those brass blocks! Nothing but positive feedback about them, and every one of my guitars have Floyd Rose Specials or licensed trems... Ie; well known that I don't play much anymore, so 2 guitars haven't had their bridges swapped out yet. Haha.

You could make a particle board guitar sing, Jedi, yet I have to ask if you (or your phone etc.) made a typo? The post reads 'basswood necks...' I've honestly never heard of that before.
