My soloists is Alder. Duncan JB and '59 pups. Sounds great.

Tone wise I don't know if it would be that noticeable.
I think the difference would be basswood is softer. Easier to dent and ding.
Easier for building as well. Drilling, cutting....

I guess it depends on the color scheme as well. If you want Transparent, Quilt, or something like that, a grainy wood like Alder is needed.

Well...if you must know, Alder worked out pretty good for Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck and yadi, yada...

Alder machines well, and requires less finishing processes.

    Ash is pretty.

Basswood plays very well with CNC machines, plus it's lightweight, and everybody has just got to have a lightweight guitar nowadays

Heavy guitars are currently a dirty word

I donít think itís a dirty word, but I can vouch for disliking getting tired from holding a heavy axe around my neck. I hate it.

I was already on the verge of plumping for it but now it's settled: basswood.

I agree, heavy guitars can really suck. I'm in that everybody category too.
But it's kinda funny how folks obsess over the weight, and sellers show actual X lbs, X ozs, like it's a newborn baby.

That's because they're American and Americans sue for injury and damage as readily as everyone else likes to eat so they put the weight in as a disclaimer to head off litigation.

Another source for parts is Stratosphereparts.com. They buy new guitars and part them out. They carry EVH parts, including the striped series.
