    You know I have.

Vinyl is on deck. Gonna play both back to back but 5150 is just too important an album for me.

Tough one... Hard to compare as they both have a completely different energy.

I'll go with Montrose. I tend to listen to 5150 more, but when I do put Montrose on the stereo, I simply have to blast it loud from the first to the last minute. It really gets me pumping.

If anybody bought the remastered special edition with the bonus CD: that live radio take of Rock Candy is killer (slightly faster and more fills by Dennis Carmassi and Bill Church - raw and rocking

I agree. Satch plays within the songs very well in CF

Yep and its not Van Halen. Doesn't even compare to one of the best VH albums and IMO the best Van Hagar album.

Not as close as I thought it would be. 5150 is an I comic record. Montrose is a great record with some really solid songs. I think some of you may be letting our VH anger/disappointment affect your decision.

But we canít unhear/now what we did and do know. I get that. But I like 5150 way to much. Even if 5150 was put out by some unknown one-off record, my ears still like it better, I suspect.

This. 5150 absolutely and completely demolishes Montrose in my book. It's not even remotely close.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

On a Van Halen fan forum I'd be surprised to see anyone pick Montrose.

5150 has its problems - the songs aren't one of them. Yeah, WCTBL gets slagged here a lot by certain members but objectively it is a good tune. And it's probably my least favorite on the album.

    5150. Not even close.
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

I totally disagree with you. To me 5150 (and most of Van Hagar stuff) is cheesy rock, and Montrose is real hard rock. I would always take true hard rock over cheesy and poppy rock.
In my book Montrose wins this matchup by many miles.
