I have one of the Judah Guitars EVH Striped Series Frankenstrat mod guitars that I bought a few years ago. Incredible workmanship on adding the extra routes to the body and performing the relic job. While conversing with that guy he said the Rasta guitar is the only one not trademarked, and that he make copies of it. He was contacted by the Ed's lawyers regarding his reliced striped series guitars, and in the end he was allowed to continue making those since they are based on a factory-issued guitar and he is not adding the paint scheme.

Jeez, clean that thing already. I don't think the puke is making that much more valuable.

Yep, I was telling James the other day in another thread that the Circles, along with the Shark and the R/W/B Frankie, is one of my three favorite of Ed's axes.

If EVHGear decided to release the Rasta (I hope they do, sorry Brett), I wonder if they would need Dweezil's permission to do it. I doubt he would say no, but it would be interesting to know.

HH< Ed had a beautiful mind in bastardizing guitars-
Its been seen in the Fender/EVH Gear offices with new hardware and a new neck. You never know.

I personally like that guitar way better than the circles. With the exception of the dick on the top horn that somebody here once pointed out to me. What has been seen cannot be unseen.

Only if Dweezil had a trademark on those colors in combination. Considering how common that is I highly doubt it.

I saw "Zappa Plays Zappa" a few years ago at the Saranac Brewery in Utica, NY and not only was it a stellar show, but since the venue is small, I stood 5 ft. from Dweezil the entire night and watched a true guitar virtuoso and very talented musician and one incredible band crank out some of Frank's incredible music.

Afterward, I met him and shook his hand and expressed my gratitude for his sharing of his talent and that of the band with the central, New York crowd. He was genuinely grateful and was not only super cool, but very down to earth. My buddy had a few pictures taken with him too as my buddy is a HUGE Zappa fan.

As some on here may know, it was only two years later that Dweezil lost the right to use the Zappa name in any of his projects due to the legal mess with his two siblings over the Zappa estate once Gail Zappa passed. I would recommend seeing his latest band if ever he's at a venue in your general vicinity....

    Interesting info!
I have seen those Judah mods on eBay. Very authentic looking.

Yes they are quite good at what they do. It was a interesting loophole that this guy found. I had been looking at the Fender Frankenstein copies from a few years back. I had seen them as low as $12K at the time. It certainly was not a good investment for those who paid full list price. Plus the purists can find issues with them. Ultimately I went with the Judah Frankenstrat mod on the striped series for a little over $2K if I recall correctly. I also had a EVH Frankenstein pickup installed. Funny story, the wrong guitar was shipped to me initially. I noticed because it came with a Wolfgang pickup like the striped series guitars have stock. He pulled one from their line, installed a Frankenstein pickup and shipped it to me quite fast. I kept both for a few days, looking at the subtleties in the workmanship on each. Ultimately I kept the second one he shipped and sent the first one back. I have a few pics of the dual Frankenstein guitars that I had for a few days. To be honest my stock EVH bumblebee guitar plays a tiny bit better, but I have spent more time tweaking the setup on that one. They are of course the exact same guitar underneath the finish. He definitely told me that the Rasta is not protected and he shows them on his Facebook page. It is as others have pointed out not a high-demand guitar. He made a few of them using the Circles guitar as the base guitar. This info was from around two years ago, so take it with a grain of salt, but I doubt that anything has changed regarding the status of the Rasta.

Default Dweezil plays EVHs Rasta Guitar

Interesting about the copyright on the Rasta. Doesnt seem like Ed really has plans for that one. And Im joking when I say I hope they dont make one, its just because I love to play mine and I dont want to see a ton of them out there, but I would be happy for you guys if they released that model. It was a bitch to paint but very rewarding actually in the end. Mine has actually relicd itself because its been my main axe for almost 9 years since I made it. Ive been hard on it, but the paint job has held up pretty well. I dont mind my homemade painted guitars looking beat up, I kind of like them looking that way. I am much more careful with my factory painted stuff.

The fact that very few people know what it is is one reason I dont mind playing mine a lot because really nobody associates that guitar with Eddie Van Halen. People have come up to me and asked where I got the idea for it, and I tell them the truth, but they didnt even know.

Ive been toying with getting the gold hardware on mine. But well see I really dont want to mess with it. It literally plays perfectly and I just want it to stay that way.

Yeah, that paint job had to of been brutal, Brett.
    Great job for sure.

I'm with ya. Some wear and tear gives the homemade stuff some character. Wouldn't bother me at all.

I don't see the Rasta joining the line either. Be cool, but seems unlikely.

This was the last layer painted, the black. Look at this mess of tape. I was just praying at this point when I painted it black that it came out resembling something usable.

OMG! I take that back, Brett. It's beyond brutal!!!
Jeez...look what you had done to that point already. Wow! That was a serious undertaking.

LOL. I woulda been thinking the same. "What is this gonna look like"?

    Talk about a tape nightmare.

The feeling had to be great in the end, though. You killed it!
