Default Which would you rather listen to?

Curious, as I would rather hear the Australia show.

    Australia ‘98.

A better setlist IMO as it includes both eras and it has better vocals as Gary/Mike > Dave/Wolf in that department.

Plus Eddie in 1998 has a way better tone than 2013.

    Amen!!!

Notice there's no slagging Roth or 'Sam vs Dave' bs... Hmmmm. I like all III eras of Van Halen with their lead singers, and the setlist from Sydney '98 represents that.

Can't wait for the first obtuse reply like "What about Van Wolf etc?" The Sammy or Gary eras weren't played..., Duh!

And yes, Eddie's tone was more pleasing to me, as well as the lead/background vocals gelling more. IMO.

I'd give a slight nod to Tokyo Dome. Dave doesn't sound as bad as people make it out to be, yeah he has some cringe inducing notes but he's decent for most of it.

The main reason as always is I like the material better. Now, if the Gary show had 5150 and Summer Nights and Runaround and BOBW it might be a different story. I like Ed's tone better in 98 too.

I actually like them both and an I'd listen to either one without too much difficulty.

I made two resolutions this year. One was that I wouldn't talk shit about Gary's time in Van Halen. The other was that I wouldn't talk shit about Kiss.

I'm doing good so far, but it gets difficult the more I log on here.

Tokyo Dome. Yes, Dave struggles, but not nearly as much as some make it out to be, and I enjoy his Japanese banter because it gets the crowd going and laughing even if I dont understand it.

And, the setlist isnt watered down with the likes of WCTBL or Right Now.

That said, I really enjoyed the tour with Gary, and for the most part it did have a great setlist. But, like with Sam, the band always left out my favorite stuff from that era. Which is understandable, since crap like WCTBL was popular. I'd still rather have heard Gary sing "5150" or Summer Nights or AFU from that era.

I liked Tokyo dome and I also liked Australia

everyone past 60 struggles singing wise, Sammy Hagar, Paul Stanley, Diamond Dave, Geddy Lee even Pat Benitar cant hit the notes anymore.

can anyone of us do at 60+ what we could do at 20.... nope

I give them all credit trying to put on a good show, except Kiss, lip sync is not cool not matter what
    DAVE vs SAMMY

People need to let this go.....it is like comparing an ex wife to your current wife...you can say how things would have be different if she were still here but she left you, so you moved on with your life.....

Same with Van Halen...would they have liked to have Roth stay, yes...but he decided to leave so they moved on.......

and the rest is historyÖ.. well until 1996ÖÖ..lol

    Not curious at all, IMO.
I'd go so far as to say 'completely understandable'.

Iíd rather Tokyo just so Iím not subjected to any III

That said if the 98 tour with Gary was all split between the first two eras and they only did Without You and maybe Fire in the Hole
    I might go 98

But alas thatís not what happened so Tokyo it is

I kind of assumed the OP meant the Sydney pay per view show, and not the whole tour.
I know they played FYLT and another one or two not shown on the broadcast... Was HMSI on there too? That version (extended, btw) of Year to the Day is one of my favorite III moments.

My Tokyo Live discs are slated to be coasters in my next pad...

I think it was the FYLT/SBGMAD with Mike on vocals combo.

That was actually a highlight for me, I wouldn't want Mike singing an entire show but he kicked ass on that one!
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.
