    I'm right with you.

I was 23, driving all over the southwest to catch shows and playing in a band.

    Great memories of that period.
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

Iíd rather Tokyo just so Iím not subjected to any III

That said if the 98 tour with Gary was all split between the first two eras and they only did Without You and maybe Fire in the Hole
    I might go 98

But alas thatís not what happened so Tokyo it is

Great tour, album was ok but it needed to be a grand slam.

Most people don’t even remember this lineup existed.
As has been said, it was more of an Edward Van Halen solo album than a collaborative Van Halen band album, and that was a mistake. Letting Gary be Gary, and including both Al and Mike in the creative process, AND having Mike sing backing vocals on every track and play bass on every track wouldve helped obviously.

When this is even a question, you know Tokyo Dome is not a very good live album. Out of all of the shows they've done with Dave, why they chose that one is WAY beyond me.

It's weird, all those Australian shows plus that first run of American shows in the spring before Australia sold well. Even our show at the Gorge, one of the first summer shows on July 11th IIRC, was well attended by a typically rowdy Washington State VH crowd. I never really knew the tour did poorly until well after the tour was over and went online.

I skipped the VH III tour because I was so disappointed in the album. I also skipped the 2004 tour.

I have great memories of the III era, and the buildup leading to the release. Fun time for me and a few close to me.

I obviously love VH, mostly for Eddie, and I dug Extreme. Thought Gary was cool. I was very excited to see and hear the pairing. Still very much wanting to hear the scrapped/shelved 2nd album tracks, and don't care how much Coulda/DD/Brett/Brook etc. say that it sucked... I liked it.

Every III song sounded better live. The tempos for tunes like Without You and One I Want were sped up a bit, and Gary sounded more like himself.

I am a big Extreme fan (especially their first 2 albums) and I had high hopes when Gary joined VH. Sorry, but no amount of polish can make the turd that is VH III shine.

This absolutely smokes everything on VH III …

I love that song ^^^, and Nuno's guitar work. The intro is brilliant, as is the solo. Not to mention the dissonant chords and voice leading notes in the verses etc. Loved his wailing on Mutha, as well.

    My original comment still stands...

Fair enough. I will counter with this …
