A VH movie would be lucky to generate 50 million. It would never come close to that movie.

The Sam and Dave documentary done around the time of the 2002 tour was bad enough.

In a sense, it's a perfect opportunity for Van Halen... make tons of money, instant rise in popularity, spark new interest in a fading catalog... plus here's the best of all... they don't have to do shit!!! No new music, no touring, no fan interaction... nothin. Just sit at home and binge watch TV all day...

Well, Bohemian Rhapsody manufactured most of the band drama by having Queen completely estranged from each other on non-speaking terms for a year (they never really broke up), and then reunite for Live Aid with just a couple of practices (and Freddie's voice failing due to AIDS, though he wasn't diagnosed until years after Live Aid).

I guess they could manufacture a climax by also having Ed and Dave break up a few years earlier, and then reuniting for US Fest. I can picture Adam Sandler playing Steve Wozniak, offering Van Halen $1.5m if they get back together for it. "It will be the biggest backyard party you've ever played!" "It's more than the Clash are getting" someone says: "I think Dave is in the Amazon jungle, we can't contact him." Ed says: "And all our equipment is overseas too." Then they show Pete Angeles spending $500k on the show and they re-create the highlights.

But yeah, like been said, it won't happen for so many other reasons, like consent and band popularity. But a fun little exercise to imagine it.

The Van Halen Story is one of how egos and addictions can ruin the greatest.

    Not really interesting or original.

Do we need a movie about Eddie being a newspaper boy while Alex starts playing his drums?
    Eddie Van Halen in 2012:

"ESQ: What are you going to do with all the material that you wrote with Sammy Hagar?

EVH: Oh, I hadn't thought about that. That's some great music. They're just on vacation, maybe. They're off to college and they're going their own way. Who knows?"

The early days in Pasadena and rise is interesting. The stuff later on is kind of cliche to an extent. It is one of the issues I think w the Motley movie, true but kind of a big cliche

They would never agree to it, but it would be a cool story. The story of the VH family coming over to the USA, the Roth familyís unique history, meeting and creating for the first time, etc etc. Thereís a lot there to work with and I would use ďVH RisingĒ as a foundation. It all depends on the type of movie thatís made.

With Bohemian Rhapsody there were those like Sacha Baron Cohen that wanted a hard ĎRí rated movie focusing on Freddieís debauchery. Thankfully, they didnít want to do that.

A VH movie can show dysfunction without being all about the shit show.

Honestly yes they could make a fantastic movie based on Van Halen Rising.

Any VH movie, in order to have the rights to use the songs, will have to put a positive spin on the story. And it's not that hard to do, actually. You show Roth singing awesome on the reunion tour in 2007 - well it's factual, since he didn't mess up 100% of the songs. You just show the couple of songs he sang well and you're not even distorting history. Everything can be like this. Sammy exits the band to go solo - he did have a long solo career after he left VH. Eddie and Val, the beautiful love story at the center of the movie. EVH, the family man, starts playing with his son in 2006, and it's all about family. A man with strong family values. The whole movie could be like this. DLR will be gently criticized for the 1985 split but since he's been swallowing his pride for the last 10 years, he'll go with it. I'm sure the Sammy years will be over quickly. There's a way to bend history without outright lying, and some clever screenwriter will know how to do it.

They don't have... now... but they used to. That's the key part. The movie's whole intent is to bring to the theater the millions that bought the records back in the day and that lost track of the band. You put "Jump" in the middle of the movie, you end in 2007 with DLR coming back and Ed being a good Dad with his son. You got your feel good ending, a bit of drama, the story of a modern-day mozart if you show EVH's early years.

You just omit the terrible stuff, you don't have Eddie saying he cured cancer, you don't have Mike erased from album covers, you don't have the porn movie soundtracks, Sammy saying f.u. to Eddie, etc.

The drama IS good. You can't do a movie about Rush, as I said. Not enough drama. You'd have to invent it. It's easier with VH. Granted, truthfully VH has TOO MUCH drama. So you just omit stuff, simplify a bit, and you got your rockin biopic. Coming to a theater near you in 2021!

Lol, Dave sang more than just "a couple" of songs well in 2007. C'mon, dude. That statement makes you as credible as Eddie Trunk.

And here, I do agree with a lot of what you are saying in this thread. But the Dave has always sucked live, and still sucked in 2007, just gets ridiculous. Especially when spewed by diehards who SHOULD know better.

Besides the point. I am not re-litigating this. I was giving an example. They will just focus on the positive, which is what I meant. There will be a challenge, though, with the use of live performances. Because Queen has TONS of great-sounding live tracks. VH has very little in comparison. So they'll probably have to use more studio stuff than live stuff. Won't prevent it from happening, though.
