I'd love to hear new Van Halen... just because I love to hear Eddie play the guitar. Asking for that though is like asking to see the inside of Fort Knox. It's gotten just stupid and ridiculous. Just play the friggin' guitar already! I completely agree with Sammy when he said Ed needs to be more prolific. Sure, EVH doesn't owe us anything.. but if you're gonna be slinging guitars and all the garbage with your logo on it, you kinda do. If he wasn't selling all the stuff, then you'd think he'd just be prolific and release something just because he's a musician and that's what you do. Instead, it's turned into this soulless commercial machine that tries to time and maximize everything for every possible dollar. You even see Wolfgang doing that now. I can see Wolfgang doing it though because nobody is going to buy his Nu-Metal/modern rock wannabe crap anyways. Enough with the secrecy. It's just stupid. I'm turned off by it.

They played them all the first night. I know they started dropping off one or two later on, though.

They dropped LTS by the time they hit the west coast. There were a few linkers who caught it on the first leg in '04. I forgot what kind of reviews it received. I'd have liked to have heard Ed's live version of it.

IAT was as awful live as it is on the record.

But UFB wasn't bad live. In fact, it was better.

Default Is new music really that important to y'all?

LTS and IAT were just a hodge-podge of disjointed riffs. A continuation of the VH III mess. There was at least some hope for LTS though, had it been a true band effort it would have been better.

I remember your quote at the time. You and a few scarce others heard it before the rest of us. You said something like "Hmm. There's a lot going on in there."

Regarding the 3 songs from 2004:

It's About Time - sounds like Van Halen trying to be Limp Bizkit. Just an awful, contrived and disjointed song.

Learning To See - starts off kind of promising and then just goes completely off the rails. Would have fit in nicely on VH III.

Up For Breakfast - the beginning sounds like a combination of Why Can't This Be Love and Fire In The Hole. The lyrics make Good Enough and Poundcake sound downright highbrow in comparison.

LTS has some solid Ed rhythm work, which would've sounded better if it wasn't sliced n' diced. The solo isn't bad either.

But Sam's harmonies are just off in that track. Lots of folks lament his screaming at the end, but the whole song he seems to be straining and pissed off. And it's Lukather singing the backup vox, isn't it?

I've washed those three tunes from my memory.

I'm in the new music faction.

I like to be taken to other sonic places while still recognizing my favorite band. Perhaps that is why I really like III, warts and all. Said many times: if they had first toured and gt a better feeling for each other, III - or its follow-up - could have been stellar.

ADKOT was cool as it was a mix: some modernized old tunes brought into the next millenium and some new sonically different tunes (Honeybabysweetydoll). Could have been a bridge to a new album (or EP) with emphasis on new ideas.

The odds of them coming close enough for me to see them live are slim to none so no new music = no TVH$. I donít care if itís old demos or what. I purposefully donít listen to much of that stuff so anything they release is new to me. Listening to ADKOT right now and still really enjoy most of it. New or old itís still VH to me. Mike on the low end would have brought everybody up a notch imo.

Random, sad observation..I've seen Wolf more on his moms cooking show in the last few months than on YouTube making music.

Put me in the minority but I love Up For Breakfast.

This is a classic Van Hagar romp.

Lyrics are cheeseball 80ís rock lyrics but VH were a party band and they fit that image. Not sure why VH fans get so turned off by certain lyrics. These guys arenít the Beatles.

It’s About Time and Learning to See are a mess.

Learning To See has mad potential but it’s like two different songs happening at once.

Hagar says in his book it took Eddie three months to nail the solos on those tunes.

The original plan was a full album but Eddie couldn’t play.
