Maybe Ed will finish writing “Death by Hollywood”. He was a mess when he talked about that but it sounded promising to me.

I'd be happy with 3 new amazing songs.
Gimme 3 Stay Frostys!
Then play them live...along with DOA, FOOLS, with that great intro, PCTS, TYWH, OFOTD...and the usuals...plus Stay Frosty! Would love that! The most important hour is always the present. The most significant person is precisely the one sitting across from you right now. The most necessary work is always love.

New music is probably priority #1 to me. I’d rather new music than a new tour.
It comes down to Dave’s analogy of Eddie having the talent of a Ferrari but treating it like a lawn mower. I want that Ferrari to be driven, and I want us all to have the option to enjoy it.

I would be absolutely thrilled to have an album of all new material from Dave, Eddie, Alex and Mike. We haven't had one of those in 35 years.

But I’m not just talking about touring vs new music. I’m talking about new music getting the same love as old music. I would rather listen to DD then ADKOT, because there is no connection there for me long term. I haven’t listened to it in a couple of years. That review thread getting bumped also has a lot to do with this thread. My Pandora stations are 50’s thru 80’s. I think Edward was somewhat right when he said folks just want the hits. Although for us it’s the old stuff that wasn’t hits. This isn’t strictly about rock music, because I like more types then just rock. You may want the option to have new music, but when/if they put out a new album, then tour new album and ADKOT only, there is going to be some disappointed concert goers.

Few things are going to resonate with you than the music you were listening to when you came of age. That's just how sentiment works. It hard-wires for a lifetime.
However, ADKOT suffered not because we're all not 17 anymore. ADKOT suffered because it just wasn't that good. Could Dave and Ed and Al and Mike work up a new record that resonates and stands the test of excellence to long term fans? It's of course a possibility. It's a long shot, but it's possible. But ADKOT wasn't it. That doesn't mean they don't have another stellar piece of art waiting to be birthed. It also doesn't mean we should expect Fair Warning 2.0.
Nobody went to the 2012 tour for the new music except us diehards, and we would've went without it anyway lol.

It has been said that whatever we males like when we are 14 years old, we will like for the rest of our lives. This is especially true with music. For many of us, our preference for a particular era of Van Halen (if we have one) can usually be traced back to when we first discovered the band. There is an emotional attachment with music unlike almost anything else. I can still remember exactly where I was the first time I heard numerous VH songs. Nostalgia is a powerful thing.

Plenty of decent alternative/indie rock the last 15 years, but guitar rock....that's pretty much dead. Unless you dig Ghost, Altered Bridge, Avenged Sevenfold...stuff like that. There might be a...
