Surprised Grohl aint in there. He's like the king of rock now.

I like the comments part. Dave but no Dylan.

I would have thought Angus Young too.
All the AC/DC merchandise sold on top of the albums and tours.
“And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

Our heroes are dwarfed by the mainstream guys like Bono & Buffet.

    Not even close.

It’s not hard to believe that 2 former Beatles are on that list. I mean come on.

Matthews plays to an extremely large audience and has a cult following. Bono and the edge made a mint off Facebook. They still suck though.

Mathews tours a lot. He is also a very good businessman he has about 10 businesses here in cville alone (I'm an investor in one). His audience is huge and he keeps his costs pretty low so not surprised. He also has some tech investments he has made so it adds up.

Music is only the starting point for that kind of money. It's the investments made with that music money that got these artists to the top of these lists.

Jeez, i haven't seen or heard Dave Matthews since maybe, 1997.

    He still tours?

How the fuck did that guy catch on, with his oddball voice and weird acoustic grooves?

From when Alan Klein took over as their manager...so anything from Jumpin’ Jack Flash to right up to Sticky Fingers (Klein claimed writes to Brown Sugar, Wild Horses, & You Gotta Move)..not sure if ABKCO got ahold of the rights to their publishing when they were managed by Andrew Oldman.

P.S. Klein tried to claim writes to some of the Songs on Exile, but he lost that battle.

I read somewhere that the number one money making restaurant in America, at least at one time, is/was Margaritaville on the Vegas strip. (Buffet holds a small, special place in my heart because my mom loves his music, so I grew up listening to it. My first two concerts with my parents back in the day, I forget which came first, were Buffet on his Fruitcakes tour and Rod Stewart on his Unplugged tour.)

I also read way back in the day that Dave Matthews Band got the attention of record companies because they were making $1 million a year before every being on a label, between record sales, merch, and touring. And it seems, at their peak, they were making $200,000 a day (1998) on tour just from merch, not to mention they essentially tour every summer and have since 1991. Add in fan club memberships and cheap live albums that used to debut in the top 10, the fact that he is up there doesn't surprise me.
