A lot of my friends laugh when I tell them VH is my favorite band. Sometimes it's down right embarassing. It kind of goes along the lines of still liking hair metal as far as my friends are concerned. I'm not comparing them to hair metal, but some of my friends put them in that league. They are my age, but they seem to like depressing shit like Pink Floyd and all this industrial metal crap out now. I had to laugh when one of my friends told me that he thought Nirvana was the best band of the nineties. I laughed my ass off at him and told him that that piece of shit band ended music as we here all knew and loved. Anyway, do you guys get embarrased sometimes to say that a band that hasn't been in the spotlight in quite some time is your favorite band?

Never be embarrassed to tell someone you love VH. At the same time, try not to rip on somebody else for their preferences (I know, it's hard). It works both ways.

Some of the bands I love to death have NEVER been in the spotlight.

    Tommy Keene
    The Replacements
    Sonic Youth
    Descendents
    Superchunk
    The Jayhawks
    Sugar

I still love 'em to death, even though most people say "who the hell is that" when I tell them who I'm listening to.

Nope never had anyone laugh. Of course most of my friends are in their late 20's, early 30's and grew up with VH. Plus my obsession is news to no one.

I never had friends laugh at Van Halen. I think they know I would clean their clock if they did. But seriously, the only time friends broke my chops about Van Halen were when they hired Gary and when Gary was out. I was open for it here. In fact, I have turned many of my friends on to them throughout the years. Most of them say the same thing. " Eddie is a genius but the band has seen better days."

On the other hand, I have heard friends make some laughable comparisons or comments about them.

"Eddie is a Randy Rhoads rip off"
"Eddie is a Jimi Hendrix rip-off"
"Pearl Jam and Nirvana were better musically."
"Van Halen are a Led Zeppelin rip off"
(This one was the best)"George Michael is a better guitar player then Eddie Van Halen"

One time when I was wearing my Van Halen t-shirt with the logo from the first album on the front someone said "So you like Van Halen? Haven't heard anything from them in a while." I felt like saying "Fuck you, Van Halen rules!"

The way the past year has gone I almost laugh when I hear myself say I like Van Halen.

I hate to admit it, but I'm a closet Van Halen/David Lee Roth freak.

Thes few times I've talked about VH or DLR over the past few years...I get the look. You know..like grow up or something.

I guess to some people, when you're 33 years old, following the goings-on of people in the music biz is something that shouldn't be done.

Hell, I was beginning to feel that way also...until I found the VH boards.

So now I'm able to get my VH-fix with other like-minded souls.

My husband doesn't get it either...he just tolerates it and gives me the look .

From a few of the rap-worshipping friends, I've gotten the "Van Halen is gay" bit.

They were lucky I wasn't in a violent mood when they told me that.

But most of my good friends like 'em, despite the lack of news.

I only got my VH tatoo 3 years ago, so some people questioned the idea of getting it as VH aren't as "cool" as they used to be. But I say fuck em' because I haven't for one second regretted it.

For those people who think Van Halen is "out of touch" with modern music, I often want to invite such person's to the next Van Halen concert. Even with Gary, Van Halen ROCKS. One of my best friends, a product of 90's grunge music, went to VH with Gary and concluded: "That was the best concert I have ever been to..."

I couldn't be prouder that the Mighty Van Halen is my favorite band...I'm a teacher and right on my classroom walls are two VH posters...The BOV promo and the EVH/Peavey poster from the 'Balance' era...What's more, my students LOVE 'Eruption' and always identify it as the playing of "that guy on the wall." Hey, they love Brian Setzer Orchestra, too...maybe the youth of America WILL turn out alright...
