I forgot about Chinatown. I saw them a couple of times in 2012 and 2015 and did not catch Blood and Fire.

Iron Maiden releasing Powerslave, and you can't wait to hear the songs in concert.
    AC/DC, Van Halen, Sabbath, etc.

There was a point where no one cared as much.
Suddenly, it became all about the old hits.
I do miss those days. The album release was awesome and then the prospect of hearing those tunes live. Glory days for Halen.

That's ok, Dave forgot some of Chinatown every night too.

    Mostly correct.

At least DL does something special every once in a while, though. (Vegas residency with a different setlist every night & Hysteria front to back on multiple occasions, namely.)

I think they only played Blood and Fire once or twice. Dave's voice sounded terrible on it for some reason when they played it as it hit in his empty mid-range that tour. It's a bummer, because that's my favorite from ADKOT.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

They do hustle and promote their stuff. They also benefited from the "Rock Of Ages" musical and movie.

I saw DL last week in London - 20,000 sold out O2 Arena so they are doing something right. Though the Hysteria playback was a bit boring at times.

DL was never a jamming band, they just play stuff like the record. With Viv Campbell in the band they could do more but they don't want to. To me it's pretty obvious, DL in their glory days were 6 guys, coz Mutt Lange was as important a member than any of the guys in the band. Or maybe even more since he wrote all the songs with them. When they stopped working with him, their records turned to shite.

I don't get it, and I also don't understand how the Country music genre is self sustaining and thriving, on a much smaller scale (when compared with/to Rock, at her peak).

Country stations are thriving, and there's no issue.

Country music continues to be created and sold, and there's no issue.

County music artists continue to tour, and there's no issue.

But as for Rock music, no one wants it; no one will support it; blah, blah, blah.

    ***

2007 was billed as a "reunion" tour, so we didn't get a new album.

2012 tour was supported by a new album.

2015 tour was supported by a new (live) album.

Hopefully, 2019 will follow the band's established pattern with new music.

No the guitarist who wrote all the music died. Had he lived, half of adrenalize wouldíve never happened. And for sure no slang.

Yeah, some older bands continue to play tons off their new albums, but they tend to be metal or prog or something without a ton of mainstream hits. Metallica plays a ton of new stuff, so does Iron Maiden, so does Dream Theater, Rush played 10 of 13 songs and 11 of 12 live from their last two albums, as well as almost always playing an older song that had never been played live before. Having a 3 hour show helps though. I love when bands highlight their newer stuff, but it's a battle, most fans just want to relive their youth and have a jukebox experience of the same ol'...

I'm a big Def Leppard fan and Steve Clark fan, but he wasn't some metalhead. He was just as into the early 70s glam rock as the other guys and loved pop music, he was heavily involved in the writing of the Hysteria and Adrenalize songs including the ballads. I think too much is made of them going soft because he's gone. I just don't think stylistically they would have been much different if he had lived. Maybe the quality would have been better but I think people are making an association that's imagined more than anything. The same mistake is made with Van Halen, "They went all keyboardy because of Sammy!" No, they had already chosen that path, it just happened that Sammy joined during that era's peak. Same with Steve Clark. They went from young guys making more aggressive rock to older successful guys more into crafting and melody. Just like virtually all other rock bands.

I donít think itís so much of them going soft but more along the lines of songs going a different way.

The same with 'Van Halen, IMO.
Yet it seems like some fans wish that 'Growth' was titled 'Stagnant' (symbolically) for some reason? I don't understand that concept, nor do I want it to apply to musicians I admire.

I voted 'yes' for a new album next year. Zero insider intel etc., just a hope and a guess.
If there isn't some sort of new product (even a new song or two) then I hope they have something else up their sleeves!
