5150 build neck question
Hi all, I have a 5150 that Rols made years ago. He really did excellent work, but the guitar fell off a wall swing and the neck broke. I’m taking this as an opportunity to try to replace the neck myself. I ordered a new one from Muiskraft (back profile evh 81 91) and I found the awesome templates Jedi McFly created. The only thing I’m finding mixed information is on the paint colors. It looks like Fiesta Red was the go to, back in the day, but is no longer made. What I’m finding is Krylon Banner red, Glossy White and Glossy Black.
Are people usually happy with MusiKraft? Is this neck profile similar to the Music Man? And are the paint selections fairly accurate? Any thoughts and advice on the new neck and paint would be appreciated (I always do well learning from other’s mistakes and successes).
Thanks!

don't use Krylon....
use Duplicolor chevy orange red.... that is the best color and essentially the same color as Eds was which was schwinn sunset orange.
thats what to use

Thanks for the info! Do you believe the white and black are glossy or flat?

the white you want to use is also Duplicolor and its called Whimbleton white as its perfect for Eds Kramers because the paints Paul Unkert, George Felise etc were using back in those days were an almost off white and the Whimbleton white matches that great and that looks perfect for the 5150 and Kramer fleet Ed was using. If you search the guitar page here and see my 5150 pics you'll see what I mean. It just works perfect. The black is just regular gloss duplicolor black
that will get the job done just right for you bro. Good luck and show pics

Thank you!
The paint came in and I was just about to start. But then I’ve read conflicting reports if Ed primed the guitar first or just painted directly on the raw wood. Any thoughts?
Also, it looks like No Bozos website is gone. Any ideas on how to get the Kramer decal?
By the way Rob, your 7 peg 5150 is amazing. Great idea on using an exacto for the wood grain!

I can say I tried hand silkscreening some t-shirts once, and only after I got started did I remember you were supposed to put a coat of white before you put a coat of color. The purple on black was barely visible. Based on that, I'd say no matter what the project, a coat of primer is always an excellent idea.

Check out this place for the 5150 decals, as a thought:

EDIT: Sorry, I just realized you only need the Kramer decal.

Hey thanks bro I really appreciate it yes it’s definitely the best 5150 I’ve ever had. Mr Bond / Nick saw it at EVH conn too and he was Impressed too. I’ve done many of them over the years and this one tops them all for sure. I love the 7th peg version now.
for sure. I have a relic’d waterslide 5150 Kramer logo I’m more than willing to give you for your guitar bro. Shoot me a message with your address and I’ll gladly ship it to you ☺️

Painting went well, except one stripe had quite a bit of bleed. Any tricks on how to prevent paint bleed?
Also, any technique for the black stripe with the slight over spray?

Wow, you used those templates I made like 10+ years ago? Crazy. It's funny seeing those come up in Facebook Groups and Google searches sometimes. I haven't double checked those 5150 templates recently, I myself wonder how accurate they were.
I love my Musikraft neck btw, top notch quality.

The templates are awesome! That's why the guitar room community is so great. I cant wait to try out the new neck.
The tape I'm using is 3m blue tape. the thin tape is auto detailing tape.

There's this thing in too many of us where we feel the need to pick apart anyone from the other team. This is beautifully seen in the Trump presidency. People just nitpick the hell out of him...
