I thought Johnny Cash had already released a cover of Rusty Cage before he passed away, on the same record as The Man Comes Around and God's Gonna Cut You Down.

From Imagine Dragons’ overproduced posturing to artists ripping off a whole lotta Led Zeppelin, here’s what went wrong this year

    rock, less metallic.

She's very Witchy, in a Stevie Nicks way, and loves that early 70's/60's band Coven, so
i'm sure the name "Lucifer" was derived from that sort of vibe.

Her first band, The Oath, was awesome.
Even more metallic, so you can see the progression of her slowly stripping that sound bare.

The guitarist in The Oath looked like her twin!
    JUST TO CLARIFY:

I just read a new interview with Johanna in Iron Fist, and she fired no one.

She was on the label Rise Above which is run by Lee Dorian from Cathedral.
She was in a relationship with Lee, ended it, but assumed business would be
    kept separate from personal.

Lee felt slighted, and began sabotaging Lucifer's tour.
Johanna moved onto Century Media with her band, thought all was well, but
her guitarist, a former member of Cathedral as well, chose to stick with Lee & Rise Above,
    and quit the band.

She was shocked, one thing after another.

So she began dating this other musician, and he joined Lucifer, thus the "less metallic"
    sound.

    Chrog progression = good
Singing style = no, we've heard it a million times.

That one came later in this same series, but those songs are on Unchained. The Man Comes Around has "Hurt" and a cover of "Personal Jesus" by Depeche Mode (???). On those later ones you hear him getting weaker and the song choices getting weirder. The first one, American Recordings, is just him and an acoustic, and Unchained and whatever comes after it is him with the Heartbreakers.
