    Default Floyd Rose Question

Does any 6 String Floyd Rose work properly on any 6 string guitar (that is routed for a FR) regardless of the nut size? I have a couple of Floyd Rose trems laying around and I’ve always wondered about this question.

Any details you can share are greatly appreciated.

The trems will work with any nut size, as the trems are the same and it's the nuts that can be different. They will affect the string height and spacing on the neck itself, like how close or wide the strings are to each other, and how close or far the high and low E's are to the edges of the fretboard.

    Hope that helps?

So the trems are setup to accommodate a particular nut? If I use a Floyd Rose setup for an R2,and I’m installing on a guitar with an R3, will this work out ok, or do I need new saddles, etc? Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken, the Floyd Rose 6 string trems are 'standard' in terms of the plates and saddles. Some have different sized blocks underneath where the springs go.

It's the R2/R3/etc. nuts that are slightly different in size, due to different neck widths and string spacing and so on. If you buy a Floyd off eBay etc., which I have several times, the sellers often offer you the choice of which sized nut you want.

The trems themselves are pretty universal and can be used with multiple locking nut sizes and dimensions. You can also use nuts that come from other manufacturers, depending on your parts supplies and such.

Also, the different nut sizes are to accommodate various neck profile radiuses. Sometimes shims are used under the nuts, and even under the Floyd Rose saddles, to address this, and provide the proper action.
