There is NOTHING even remotely close to NYC, at least not in the US. Over the past 10 years I've had the chance to travel and work in downtown offices in NYC, SF, LA, Chicago, DC, Atlanta, and obviously I know Boston. The others COMBINED do not compare to the mass of humanity that is mid-town Manhattan. I remember the first time I came up out of Penn Station (MSG), it was 10:30 AM, and in any other city it would be busy but not rush hour busy. I came out onto the sidewalk and just stopped, looked around and said yeah, I'm not a NY kind of guy. Even rush hour in the other cities doesn't compare to any time of day in NYC. It was wall to wall people.

It's pretty cool in small doses, a few days at a time. So much energy. So much going on. Unique in the true meaning of the word.

I'll still take the pizza in NJ, though.

I don't travel for work anymore, and have to say I miss it. A lot of people don't like it, but I was lucky in that the two companies I worked for had offices in cool locations. And I was not a well-traveled person before then, so it was still all pretty new.

As for basketball, yeah, NYC was the shit back in the 70's through maybe early 90's. As for MSG, put it this way - I remember back in the late 80's the Palestra in Philly was still talked about with reverence, although nobody was using it as their home court anymore. It was a dump by then, clinging to ghosts. Kind of like MSG is now. Used to be relevant. Then Dolan ruined the franchise.

Didn't they just invest over $1 BILLION Dollars in MSG in 2013. Huge Renovation over 3 years. It isn't a OLD dump on the inside....haha...

I think Darren and a few others that have been to MSG over the past few years can talk about the renovations.

Yeah, to be fair, dump might not be the right way to put it. Irrelevant due to their primary tenant is probably more accurate. It's no longer what it was. Some of that is because of the decline of the Big East, for sure. And some of it because of the Knicks. But it's not thought of the way it was. It was a big deal when Jordan went for 55 in the Garden. Nobody gives a shit now. Someone could score 100 and the venue would be a footnote.

It was a big deal when Kobe scored 61 there and I was like who fucking cares.

The East Coast is just so different from the West Coast. Itís like two different worlds. I think itís culture shock depending on what youíre used to.

The Garden just isn't THE place anymore. Another non typical sports example is the WWE. For decades, MSG was the home of wrestling. The old saying went "if you could get over in the Garden then you were a star". MSG hosted the first Wrestlemania, and the 10th and 20th. Now they rarely have shows there (when they are in New York they are typically at Barclays).

I had a cousin in Santa Barbara for a long time and she's always spoken very highly of it. Not sure if that's still SoCal or central...

I doubt I develop the way I did without Chris Mullin. Tried to copy his shot - didn't get it down completely, but got damn good anyway, LOL.

    Ah. Sorry for my ignorance.

Then again, every time I was in LA and reached out, you were whining about how far LA is. So are you still in SoCal?

Oh, wait, maybe that was just me... heh

My older daughter is graduating from UCSB this Sunday. I would have loved to have gone to college there. Beautiful campus in a beautiful city.
