Default NBA 2018-2019 Official Basketball Thread

LeBron is still treated like a visiting player here and I honestly am not sure thatís ever going to change at all unless the Lakers start to actually win.

Yeah they were a playoff team at Christmas time but maybe it was foolís gold who knows.

At this point they canít win with LeBron and they canít win without him him. Now Ingram has a very serious clot injury and heís been playing really well, so that blows and now his trade value just went way down. Itís just a mess.

Truth is this was a playoff team until Lebron got hurt and they would have been a playoff team even with him missing a bunch of time if they didn't make every guy on team feel worthless via those trade rumours. It took them a few years to replace Kobe. Guess what, that would happen to most teams losing that sort of talent.
But the distance between the Showtime Lakers and Shaw arriving (and Kobe) was one bad season and competitive otherwise. The distance between Shaq and contending for another title was one bad season and competitive otherwise.

They way they went about this was different, and it has cost them in relevancy--in that they are whiffing on free agents or not even getting meetings--as well as in culture.

Certainly things can change, but now reports Leonard has no plans to come here, Durant is going to NY, the hope now has to be Davis comes in a much better deal (not giving away the farm) or that someone like Klay comes.

Klay is a very, very good complimentary player.... who's about to be 30. LeBron in the twilight of his career and Klay aren't winning a title together. Not saying there's a better alternative given the apparent disinterest from Leonard, but it doesn't excite me all that much.

And, to be frank, Anthony Davis can't stay healthy.

I don't know where we are a year from now, but we've clearly got to rely on developing from within more (and get better at it). Probably shouldn't have dumped Randle.

People keep saying Durant to the Knicks is a sure thing. I don't get why any superstar would choose to play for that franchise and specifically that owner.

PS - Brian Shaw getting some mad respect.

Sure did. The fans should chant "Sell the Team" every game until he does.

James Dolan is the worst owner in sports.

I canít imagine a superstar wanting to come there and play for him.

Obviously I don't live in LA but just based on people here, I think there is a better chance of Eddie apologizing via Facebook Live to Mike than LA accepting Lebron. He is Karl Malone or Gary Payton. If you get a ring, yeah its great but he isn't your own. He isn't even Shaq on his 2nd team. He is technically on his 4th stop. You guys didn't like him before and any additional rings, increases his GOAT chances where it reduces Kobe's stature along with Magic. So he is in a lose lose situation.

The team was playing well before he got injured but that body has a lot of miles on it. He was bound to get hurt at some point. Next year he will be even older. A little slower. A little more involved with his 2nd career and a little close to retirement.

Another issue with Lebron is that for 14 years the national media has been trying to get him to NY or LA. There was obviously stories about his play, his teams play, where he may go, etc but the end all be all was that once he got to NY or LA, the grass would be greener than the greenest of greens. Everything would be just in the world. The best player in the NBA is playing in the largest market or one of the largest markets. However all those stories about where he could go, why he would go, why he should go, etc are done. He is in LA so now the writers have to write about something. So now the magnifying glass is on him and his team. More so than ever. He has the ghost of Kareem, Magic, Kobe and even Shaq to compete with and to live up to. If he or his team isn't keeping up their end of the bargain, its what we are seeing. Now he can't just go to another team. He is here for 4 years. This is the story until that contract is done

Unfortunately for him, if he doesn't win another ring, he tarnishes his legacy since its LA. Had he stayed in Cleveland and never got back to the Finals, oh well. Its Cleveland. Owners of 1 ring. Nobody here would care and the media would have a story of "well he stuck by his home area." Had he simply ring jumped and went to lets say Philly. Ok net positive there. May get a ring or two. Even if bombed oh well its still Philly. Not winning in LA after the media wanted him there for 14 years is something else. That's chum in the water.

Obviously somebody can sign there next year and help him win 3 rings. I don't see it but even if it did happen with lets say Durant, it will be because of Durant.

It's one of those things. How much was Wilt Chamberlain accepted at the time? Now we think of him as a Laker great, but he only spent his last 5 seasons there. He spent 5.5 seasons with the Warriors and 3.5 with the 76ers.

Of course, it didn't occur in the era of every single little thing being analyzed on 24 hr sports TV and radio, message boards, and social media. So perhaps, even if Lebron wins in LA, it will still be different because the narrative has been established already and can't be changed in hindsight.

Only had one drizzling day while there (Wednesday). Tuesday and Thursday were both nice, at least while we were out and about.

The current forecast for my part of So Cal calls for sunny skies and 77 degrees on Friday and 80 degrees on Saturday and Sunday. It's about friggin' time …
