The majority of people on this site were. Maybe not you.
I was born in 1974. I discovered Van Halen when I was 9 years old because I thought Jump was really cool and I liked that the guitar player smiled all the time. Not many of my classmates in grade 4 were big into classic rock in 1984. If you polled the kids in my school in that year I'm guessing damn near everyone would have listed Michael Jackson as their favourite musician.

Youre right. I was into Zep etc but VH was still releasing. I was good and not rare at all.

I just don't get how our age group was into VH/Zep etc and then embraced hair metal.

Thank God for Metallica and EVEN Grunge for killin' that shit.
Disagree... A lot of that music was popular and still brings pretty good nostalgia when hearing it on the radio. Jovi, Crue, Poison, Tesla, Cinderella, etc. looked the part back then, yet there was a fair bit of talent in the playing and writing departments.

Crap like Britanny Fox, Saigon Kick, Gorky Park, yadda yadda deserved IMO to be forgotten.

When did you get into Zep? Did you have an older sibling that got you into them? Because you're not much older than me.

At 5 years old I was into KISS and Blondie. Once MTV hit, I was into Men at Work and Duran Duran. And I still dig all those bands. Meeting and spending some time talking with Colin Hay last year was a highlight of my life.

Never got into Crue. Shout was a cool album but the guitar playing was a real weak link in that band in my opinion. Put Lynch or DiMartini in the band I may have paid more attention.

*My brothers are much older and were into Zep, Yes, Blue Oyster Cult, ELP, all that... Most if it was over my head as a toddler/5 year old. I def grew to love Yes though.....

For a 10 year old child? yeah I'd say that would be pretty rare for them to have Zepp as his favourite band. Especially in that generation where music videos where the way we were getting our music fix.

I didnt get into Zep until high school. Didnt know any kids who were into them until then either.

I do remember kids that were into Crue, Ratt, Poison, etc in 4th and 5th grade.
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

Not rare at all. Especially on this site. We all had older siblings and that helped.

Yeah, all my favorite bands with the exception of GNR I got into as i got older.

I was like everyone else when I was younger and listened to what was popular at the time.

It wasnt until I was 16 and started really getting into VH and guitar playing that my preferences shifted to Zep and Hendrix and SRV and stuff like that. But before that I had shit by Poison and Warrant and Winger just like everyone else.
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.
