Does the entire track list of 1984 count as one song?

No, but 1984 is a great friggin' album all the way through.

I think so too (I have it playing right now), and it's my favorite of the bunch.
Maybe I'm just a casual fan because Jump was on the radiio & MTV?

Jump gets slagged relentlessly on this site, but I have always loved it. There is simply not a bad track on 1984.

Yep. I think I actually love Jump more now than I did as a kid. Just really love some of the clever little things Alex does that go unnoticed unless people are paying attention to the drums, and Ed's solos are great. I love the live version where Al typically really goes off during the synth solo throwing fills all over.

1984 is a really tough album to pick a "worst" track from.

I have always loved it as well. The song itself is very uplifting, the music is timeless, the video is hilarious, and it's got the distinction of being their best known song. To me, the entire 1984 album just oozes everything that was cool about VH back then.

Eddie does a couple of pinch harmonics in the solo that are some of the meanest ones (to me) he has on record, and does all this blazing within the framework of a fun song, and makes it accessible to the masses. Pretty incredible.

It's still great when I hear it on the radio, but I wish they would drop it from their live set. It never comes across well. I understand why they have to play it, but I still wish they didn't.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I think it's good live, as I said earlier I love Alex's tossing off fills all over the place during the synth solo, and Sam guys can make fun of him all they want, but Dave showing off some of his martial arts training with the staff twirling is a really cool visual IMO. I guess it's not as cool as jumping jacks.

I just wish Jump wasn't the encore. I still think ATBL is probably the song best suited to end a VH concert with an uplifting bang. EVERY fan at every VH concert I've ever been to gets into the rousing "Hey! Hey! Hey!" outro. Then the band goes nuts for about 30 seconds to a minute, while Dave basks in the glory. A perfect ending to another evening with the Mighty Van Halen.

Some seem to like there power rock songs (i don't know genre's very well) and some seem to like the more melodic fun songs. For example

"Everybody Wants Some" or "On Fire" vs "Little Dreamer" or "Women In Love"

    Pretty cool
I thought about doing a heavy list and a light list, but that's too much to think about.
