Ah -- I had participated in the first few pages of that thread and felt no need to see why it was gaining speed -- I assumed it was a Sam v Dave thing, or a deep dive into why Ed does nothing (to which I have contributed but didn't care to get involved further).

Dave definitely tried the Vegas thing way too young.

That’s right in his wheelhouse now.

Is it me or is there more hair too? Hard to tell I guess, but he shaved his head before (and it was early 2015 right before the engine revved).

It does looks like more hair to me but like you say, depends on the angle and lighting.

Dave has a "Fred Willard" smile that he didn't use to have before. It's not that he's older, that's to be expected, it's that he's really different. Like he became a different guy.

He's nothing like he used to be, and it's not just about age and the deterioration of his voice. It's his entire attitude and demeanor. There are plenty of guys that don't sing like they used to, but they still have their same attitude and demeanor.

This is in no way a dig at Dave, more just a comment on time/aging in general... Its really hard to fathom that is was 27 years ago. Seems like it was just last week I bought this CD at the mall... Harder to fathom that I'm like 9 years older now than DLR was in this video.

As someone who is in the gym 4 nites a week since I was 18 - I am amazed by guys like Stallone who look incredible in their 70's. I recently got my oldest brother (almost 59) on Testosterone Replacement Therapy and it has helped him tremendously. He had his bloodwork done and had the Test levels of a 74 year old man.

I personally will do everything within my power physically and financially to try and stay "young" as I progress into my 50s and God-willing 60s.

    Peace

    ~E

*Note* According to this video the Absolute Final Tour will be 10/10/21. So we have 3 years left. Lol
*Note* Midgets in blackface prob wouldn't fly in a video today

I won't even bother listening. What's the point? We knew it was only going to get worse.

He can't sing anymore. Like literally sing.

I only listened to You Really Got Me, and he didn't sound too bad. You get what you get with Dave these days. He's not going to suddenly get better. The reality is that Dave is a shell of his former self, but many of us--myself included--feel like his legacy alone has earned him the right to get up there in front of VH and make an ass out of himself butchering the verses to Dance the Night Away.

IMO his look is fine and age-appropriate for that type of performance. He attempts the same vocal misadventures he tried on the last VH tour. Maybe even more so now since he isn't sharing a stage with the brothers. I think in his mind that high-pitched screech/yelp is his scream from the old days. He's changing the vocal melody of California Girls just like he did with Dance the Night Away. Go high when it normally goes low, and so forth. At least the "California Girls" on stage looked nice and actually did some of the moves from the video. Props to the guitarist on the Jump solo. At least he didn't try to ad-lib something there in its place. I'm just glad I saw Dave both in '07 and '08, which was his last solid tour performance back when he was really trying. All of the "if he" statements probably still apply- if he quit smoking, trained with a vocal coach, stayed within his natural range, etc. he'd sound very similar to '07 and older Dave. But Dave prefers being "unchained" rather than "chained" with all of those performance restrictions. lol The people attending probably loved it in that intimate setting.

He looks fine. In fact I think he looks good in the pics.

    Looks okay to me.

To me, Dave's attitude and demeanor changed around 94 when Your Filthy Little Mouth came out. He started singing differently on that CD and I thought at the time it sounded bad but I would take that over what he sounds like now. As we all know, the Dave we grew up on is long gone. I just saw Alice Cooper last month and he looks and sounds pretty much the same and he's 70. He feels timeless and consistent. He's always gonna be Alice, just like Steven Tyler is always gonna be Steven Tyler. Paul Stanley's voice is shot too but he still acts like Paul Stanley. But Dave, he's not even close to being who he was. Whenever I see him perform it's like he forgot how to be David Lee Roth and he's trying to be something he's not. He's that far removed from those songs and that attitude. It's a bummer for us but I guess as long as Dave's happy, then more power to him.

I see Hope, and Faith, but what is the name of the third one?

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I remember the YFLM album release party, it was played on my local radio station live. I can remember him talking about his new singing technique "I've now got the high note" he said.

    Put it back.

Pretty stoked to see that Dave appears to have gotten a new suit. I think he looks pretty good for his age. Some of the more official pictures from the event definitely look better. Vocally? I have to believe those are just crappy cell phone recordings. No way he is still singing that way.....I mean, did he not listen to Tokyo Dome? Yeah, that's what I am going with, bad cell phone vids. OK, back to that Fresno bootleg from 1979.
