It never ceases to amaze me that despite developing tapping, all its variants, and multi-string tapping, that Eddie never did anything like what Vai does in Big Trouble - especially as what Vai does is only a small step away from what Ed was doing and was an obvious, natural evolution. Ed's all over the place in his LWAN solo - the only difference is he likes to hang around on a position while Vai's off onto the next one.

5150 easily but I do really enjoy Big Trouble. I just dig the vibe of 5150, the lyrics are great, I've always loved Ed's solo and Alex does some bad ass stuff, the VH harmonies are great on this one.

Big Trouble is probably in my top 5 Dave solo songs, I really enjoy about 90% of EEAS.

Vai is awesome on Big Trouble but I can't get past Dave's rap-like verses. I keep having Blondie's Rapture popping into my head whenever listening to it.

Big Trouble just doesn't do much for me as a song, and I'm a Dave era guy. 5150 soars while doing some very interesting things musically. I have to go with 5150 in this case.

"5150" has inventiveness that Vai, for all his virtuosity, could never achieve. "5150" by a knockout.

    5150

But.......I really like Big Trouble. Vai has a great solo. Dave has a good groove going as well. I would probably also take SHYBOY over Big Trouble as well.....Billy and Steve killed that one.

"5150" is probably my favorite Van Hagar song.
    "Big Trouble" doesn't compare.

    A really good observation.

The tapping portion of "Big Trouble" almost sounds like a fluid sax at one point, when
he's tapping high, but fretting low on the neck.
I love that effect, and usually only Vai or Nuno do that kinda tapping.

But the "Big Trouble" solo is just jaw dropping, without trying to be a showcase.

I love the little country/open string, slidey things he does before the solo kicks in.
And i love that one really fast alternate picked phrase, which mimics a fast drum fill.

Just a great groove, great song, great solo, and great performance by Roth.

I still think that "How many times" bridge/part, is just so well written, and perfect
where it comes in, then repeats after the solo.

Also, the fade out is cool, with a ridiculous harmonic, then a sweeping lick that
sounds the opposite of Yngwie (Vai sweeps always sounded so cool & alien).

Same. LOL! Funny how songs affect people differently. I skipped that song every time. 5150 is my top Mach II song.

Big Trouble and it's not even close.

EEAS is hands down a superior album compared to 5150. All 4 members of the EEAS band killed it on the entire album. Track for track, EEAS was the better album with Big Trouble being an incredible deep cut.

However, others are correct when they say 5150 is the best track on 5150.
