I’d like to think that the band wouldn’t be content with riding off into the sunset having Tokyo Dome as the final official release. I don’t think the relationship between DLR and Ed could survive the level of collaboration necessary to make an album of new music, but I wish they would at least get together and give it an honest effort. If they can’t get it done fine; that still seems like a more satisfying end to VH as a band than looking back ten years from now and wondering what if.

All the windows have closed, at this point:

The CD, boxset, DVD craze of the 90's....gone.
A hagar reunion for those wishing for that....gone, Sammy will be 71.
    A celebration tour/reunion of VH I's 40th anniversary...gone.

    VH has left the building.

Even a guy like Seinfeld (age 64) can't bear to just quit. He's got more money than god and still felt the urge to go out and do stand up.

I think actors only "retire" when no one will hire them. Cary Grant is one of the few big names who just retired and never came back even though there were offers. Jimmy Stewart claimed he was quitting, but then John Wayne asked him to do The Shootist and he came back for that.

First I think we should dispel the notion theyíd do anything ďfor the fansĒ
Thatís not to say that thatís not part of their reasoning, but evidence also shows there hasnít been any effort to do the things the fans have been begging for.
Iíve found as I get older, my recovery time takes longer
This is the same for Ed, 1 tour with Dave and you need a break and his breaks are getting longer
Are they retired? Kind of, they might get the inkling to do something some day, theyíre passion to do it consistently faded a long time ago
Part of me is extremely thankful for the music we have gotten
And another part of me thinks a band thatís been around 40 years should have a larger catalog than the what? 130 songs they have. Makes me just think the last 20 years theyíve already been retired, but like anything else with them, weíll see and Iím certainly not holding my breathe

I definitely believe it's a simple as Wolf's new album is the holdup and that their "3 year plan" was obviously never carved in stone. I'm confident there will be both more music and more tours. Not just wishful thinking.

I mean, I get that physical media (in spite of it being my preference) is dying in popularity, but collector's items aren't intended for mass consumption anyway. Deluxe/collector's/anniversary editions and box sets are still made all the time. I get new ones often.

This was just released 2 months ago:

The upshot of a mysterious countdown clock on Guns Ní Rosesí website is a new deluxe and remastered version of the metal bandís seminal 1986 album Appetite for Destruction. It seems crazy that the band has this much unreleased material to offer at this point in their career, but the box set package is set to contain 49 unreleased songs as part of a collection of 73 bonus tracks. As Blabbermouth notes, 25 of these are set to come from the bandís 1986 sessions at Sound City Studios. The expanded version of the album will also include the bandís Live ?!*@ Like A Suicide EP from the same year, as well as a collection of the bandís B-sides from the time. Thereís a 96-page photo book featuring images from Axlís personal collection (that could be wild!) and lithographs for each of the albumís 12 songs. This decadent little package, subtitled Locked Ní Loaded, will be available on June 29 via UMG. As Stereogum points out, You can catch a glimpse of it in the unboxing video below.

Led Zeppelin has 2 new box sets this year, The Rolling Stones are still releasing new "from the vault" shows regularly, the super box set of And Justice for All will be released in a couple months, a 40th anniv box set of Hemispheres will be released in a few months, The Who continues to release new and old concerts on CD and video all the time, and on and on and on. I just don't see "nobody does them anymore" as valid. Even the biggest bands still take the time to do them.

Well speaking of how Seinfeld views this....go to 4:35 of this video:

Q: What do you do with all your time?
Jerry: What do I do with my time..I've got the same amount of time you've got.
    Q: Well I'm working.
    Jerry: So am I.
Q: You don't need to work though.
Jerry: Yes I do. What's your ideal life, doing nothing?

Ha- Yeah but I posted it to be a smartass as a snoozy emoticon towards the entire thread...heehee

I disagree with the whole Negative Nelly attitude against VH's output activity & so forth. I think it's a completely invalid complaint without merit.

They really haven't been gone that long only 3 years or so.....I don't see what the big deal is all things considered. Of course it'd be nice if they were more active touring wise & so forth...maybe put out some old archive material....outakes, live video, etc,etc...

But- there's many other acts that also don't release too much stuff or tour all the time. ZZ- Top & Aerosmith's last album's were also in 2012. Neither put out old live video releases.

Anyhoo- Here's the link to Zlozower's Atlas Icons site with the full batch of pics from '96 that the snoozy guitar pic is from.....

That's funny. Still, I thought the pic was a neat touch to the subject matter, and how it could be interpreted more than one way.

Kind of like that old Roth quote I love from that video in the old days, and similarly relating to this in a way - "Edward Van Halen has taken the wheel.... We are careening madly out of control!"

Thanks for the links to the additional photos.

I think 2015 was it for VH. I wonder if Irving Azoff has pursued the brothers and tried to put something together. It is pretty amazing in today's age of information being everywhere that we haven't heard anything about the band from anyone. I do hope we get more VH music in the future.
