Unhappy How bad is this crack - do I buy?

I've won an eBay auction for a Jem77BFP. It was up at a ridiculously low price of £825 ($1060) with buckle rash on the back and a chip on the bottom ridge (where the side meets the back) and a crack in the upper horn but none of these bothered me as they wouldn't be seen by an audience. The original auction finished and then the seller relisted with a 'make best offer' and I made a cheeky bid of £600 ($770).

I was surprised to see it accepted within 2 hours. The speed and lack of a counter bid raised my suspicions so I rechecked the listing. To my dismay, when I rechecked the photos I finally saw the crack in the upper horn (which I couldn't see at first so assumed it was hairline). It's right where the strap screw goes in and looks quite wide as I can see bare wood. The screw thread is even exposed.

If you're wondering how I could miss it, I thought the right hand side of the chip was actually the edge of the guitar strap. What a mong.

The chances of me playing live again are slim so it's more than likely going to be played sat down on YT vids but my concern - which is exacerbated by the seller's rush to accept my offer - is that it's a serious issue and will get worse over time. That it can never be played standing up because the screw will rip out or the crack will widen.

A you can see, the crack is not visible from the front or the top, but you can on the inside of the horn.

    Boy do I feel stupid.

Is it safe? Can it be fixed (and how much)?. Should I run a mile?

    Opinions needed.

I don't think that would be an expensive repair, mate, but it will get worse if it's not repaired. I'd say you've got a bargain really.

Ask him for more pictures immediately. If you're not sure about the purchase, tell him immediately. He did mention the crack so it's not like he was trying to be sly.

That being said, if you're just playing at home, some wood glue and a clamp might be enough to fix the problem for the use it's going to endure. The crack is cosmetic. No risk of the sound being affected by such a small crack.

If it were me and I had my eyes set on the guitar I definitely wouldn't run because of a crack on the horn. As long as the price reflected it.

Send it to Dan Erlewine. He’ll make a YT and it’ll be better than new. I agree it definitely needs fixed but is certainly fixable.

    Crack is always bad.

    You shouldn't buy it.

I've seen Les Pauls with the headstocks snapped clean off, be repaired to fully functioning guitars. Also, a certain color quilt be completely stripped and refinished in another color. We"ve also seen Eddie wedge a quarter under a Floyd Rose to have it "decked'. Many other examples...

The repairs can be done by a competent tech, or even by yourself in a 'good enough for bedroom use' kind of way. Holes can be doweled and filled, glue can be used, and slightly thicker screws can be installed to grab onto and bite more wood.

If you love the guitar and the price? Go for it, then weigh the repair options later.

Looks like it’s a pretty easy fix I wouldn’t let it bother me but of course you may feel differently.
