Default what 2018 records have people bought?

As is true of most of us here, I was raised to buy music and still enjoy buying a new record and discovering it. I was just thinking the other day of how seldom I buy anything new anymore, simply because there is so little new (at least that I am aware of) that appeals to me. Here are the six (6) 2018 albums I have bought so far this year, with a brief statement of my thoughts about them.

Stone Temple Pilots (their second self-titled album, with the new singer). This is really a terrific album. The tunes are all pretty good, and some ("Middle of Nowhere," "Meadow," "Roll Me Under," "Thought She'd Be Mine," and "The Art of Letting Go") are great. Dean and Robert really know how to write and play, and Jeff fits in really well.

Godsmack, "When Legends Rise." This album is terrible. I cannot say enough bad things about it. I think I got to track 5 on the first listen when I thought, "There are no riffs here!" Just utterly predictable chord changes with Sully wailing forgettable lyrics over them. Feel free to tell me if the back half is better. I ejected it in the middle of track 5 and never bothered to listen to the rest.

Jack White, "Boarding House Reach." This is a really esoteric record. Nobody can say this guy isn't trying to create something new and interesting . This may just be too, again, esoteric for my tastes. I do enjoy "Corporation."

Shinedown, "Attention Attention." I was surprised at how much I am digging this record. The first half of the disc is excellent with some real standouts (including the title track). The second half has a couple of clunkers, but only a couple. I actually bought this record the same night I bought the Godsmack album (at an FYE store in my city that has since closed). I view the records as polar opposites, in that the Godsmack record sounds lazy and creatively bankrupt, and the Shinedown album sounds as though it was made by a band with some fresh ideas and a willingness to invest some real work to execute them.

Dave Matthews Band, "Come Tomorrow." If you like Dave, you're probably going to like the record. Moreover, you're going to be familiar with a lot of the songs. There are 2 tracks here ("Can't Stop" and "The Idea of You") that DMB performed live back in 2006. If you don't like Dave, I don't think this record is going to change your opinion (although "Samurai Cop" and "The Idea of You" might win you over).

Sting and Shaggy, "44/876." I follow Sting on whatever musical adventures he goes on. I even have the infamous lute album on my shelf, but I was never able to get through it. This is just a fun album. Every song is reggae-flavored. Nothing revelatory here, but a pleasant soundtrack for a summer ride or backyard party when you're in the mood for something a little different and mellow.

I'll be interested to hear what other new stuff people are listening to.

Just as I finish typing this, I realize I am posting in the wrong forum, but I'm not sure now how to move to the correct forum. If the mods could move it, I would appreciate it, with my apologies.

Listing the albums here it seems this is my year of the female singer songwriter

    Neko Case Hell On
This is her best solo album, hands down. Also better than her work with the New Pronographers. Pretty much the only thing I listened to for the first month after it was released.

    Amanda Shires To the Sunset
I think this could be her breakout record. Americana/folk/country songs.

Brandi Carlisle By The Way I Forgive You
A name I've know for awhile, but never listened to her until know. Some powerful emotional songs on here.

    Leon Bridges Good Thing
Harkens back to 60's/70's era soul/RB. Good stuff.

Jack White Boarding House Reach Not really what I was expecting from Jack, yet it exceeded my expectations. Best things he's done since the White Stripes broke up.

I'm still an album/CD buyer. Eventhough it is getting hard to find good choices. Thankfully, you over in Germany have lots of big stores with sometimes great variety where you can really find some interesting items beyond any of the so many charts.

Choices this year were a bit odd so far...

Spock's Beard "Noise Floor" - ok, not so odd for me. Definitely the best of the last three albums and very listenable prog.

Larkin Poe "Reskinned" - Found out about the gals from Georgia on this board. Southern Rock vibe.

Chris Young "Coming Over" - ok, very odd for my taste. But my first entry into modern country, after seeing him live at the Opry a few weeks back.

Roadcase Royale (self titled) - the band headed by Nancy Wilson of Heart and Liv Warfield. Nice album with nice musical ideas. Just leave off the Heart covers please...

Iron Maiden "Powerslave" remastered - ok, took me, what, two decades to replace my cassette? So not really a "new" album...

Lost Bayou Ramblers "Kalenda" - cajun music mixed with some punka dn rockabilly. Crazy stuff that goes well with some gumbo and a cold beer or while driving cross country (does make you want to speed too much, though)

...when I come to think of it, I think those were actually the only six albums I bought this year.

Ok, my wife bought a second Chris Young album and the new album of Helene Fischer, a very popular pop queen over here in Germany (but they are stacked on her side of the stereo).

Shit I don’t think I’ve bought six albums in the last 20 years.

Most of my recent cds are repurchases of ones I used to own.
Newest ones for me are Greta Van Fleet and the RSO disc by Sambora & Orianthi.

Waitng on the 2005 Japan remaster of 5150, still en route via eBay.

Lars told me to just download that one from the Internet for free. So I can't even count that one.

For me for new Studio releases?...maybe 2016 with Megadeth "Dystopia". I only bought the cd at Target so I could get the FREE vinyl LP.

I still buy old vinyl and new (remastered) re-released vinyl. Spent $100 at a record fair last week.

    I haven't bought anything this year.......yet.

New Freak Kitchen hits next month, which is an automatic purchase for me.

Last year I bought 5 albums.

I still need to check out some of those Winery Dogs cds you raved about!
Basically forgot about them, yet love Kotzen's playing and vocals.

only thing I've gotten from this year so far is the Cheap Trick The Epic Archive Vol. 2 (1980-1983), which of course isn't new music. But I believe Cheap Trick is supposed to have a new album on the way, as well as Ace Frehley and Billy Gibbons.

Hasn't been much this year I'm digging. Probably grab the The Struts.

I do like the Neko Case record, as TJENZ mentioned.

I haven't bought a CD in ages, maybe ADKOT was the last thing.

I did buy a Helium vinyl album earlier this year, at Newbury Comics.

All my new music is downloads or stream.

I don't know how I forgot that I also bought "A Dying Machine" by Tremonti. Not as good as "All I Was," but better than "Dust" or "Cauterize." I really like the title track and a track called "Desolation."
