Everyone's different but I just can't relate to the idea that life's goal is to simply acquire enough money in order to be as inactive and unproductive as possible.

Almost no highly successful people think that way. That's the irony, most of the people who make tons of money would never think of stopping what they do regardless of how much they have. But again, there's no right or wrong to it, I've always felt that people should do or not do what they want provided they don't do so at others' expense.
For his age... young Wolfgang made a considerable amount of money for the 3 tours. Not so sure about the records, if anyone made much. But his net earnings weren't multi-millions, set for life levels of money. I'd be surprised if was much over a $million or 2...

He hasn't inherited anything... when that sad day comes, I seriously doubt that will net him a life time of easy living either once the current Mrs VH and/or Mr Bertinelli take their share.

If he lives an average lifespan, he's got a good 50-60 years ahead of him. As far as earning potential, right now is his best opportunity he'll ever have, while the name and brand recognition is still relatively pertinent in the entertainment industry.

No he'll be set for life. EVH is worth north of 100M, mom ain't poor either. Even divided by 3 and then halved for taxes, he's still looking at something in the tens of millions. Plus the royalties, which will continue and actually INCREASE as they do when a musician dies. Plus if he unlocks the vaults, that would also create additional income. In the millions of $.

The 2007-8 tour grossed $93 million. The 2012-13 tour grossed $50 million. The 2015 tour grossed $25 million, for a grand total of $168 million over 3 tours. I'm going to be very conservative and say that after paying for all expenses - manager, promoter, road crew, transportation, etc, VH took home 30% of the gross. That's $50 million.

I'd bet my life savings that Wolfgang got a 1/4 share of this as a pre-condition for touring with DLR. So for those 3 tours, WVH made $12 million before taxes and call it $6 million after taxes. He probably made another million on publishing, streaming and record sales.

EVH is estimated to be worth $100 million. Worst case, Wolf gets a quarter of this in addition to some kind of ongoing interest in future VH publishing, streaming and record sales which will take in at least low 7 figures annually in perpetuity.

Anybody can outspend their earnings no matter how high (see Depp, Johnny). That said, Wolf seems to have a pretty good head on his shoulders and if he spends and invests with some degree of prudence, his not going to want for much regardless of whether he works or not. IMO, he'll curate all the archives when EVH is no longer with us and probably even tour in the vein of Dweezil Zappa.

No doubt, Wolf is more than set at this point.

And if he lives a bit frugally, not super high maintenance & wasteful, his children will be set
    as well.

But, at this point, i would not call it a "career."
I'd call it a good opportunity combined with good luck, alongside a decent skill set.

    Dweezil Zappa has/had a career.
He jumped in the game in his late teens, and never stopped.
He began doing the opposite of Frank, then reinvented his playing, and progressed
    into the Zappa musical legacy.

No one, at this point in time, would say that Dweezil just rode his father's coat tails.

Wolf needs to become Wolf right now, then maybe later, do the Wolf plays VH thing.

I'm really interested in what it'll be called, or if "Van Halen" will even be prominent in the packaging or marketing (to what degree there will be any).
Completely agree. Look at the basic hate thrown at him just for accepting Dad’s offer to play with him. How dare him replace Mike. Never mind we almost certainly would not have gotten ADKOT but for Wolf or the “reunion tours”. Still, most here crucified him over “he’s not really signing” “he’s fat” to “he’s a privileged do nothing.” Brutal. What did Wolf do except help continue the band and be the catalyst to us hearing deep cuts we never imagined being played live? Don’t get me wrong, I miss Mike and what happened there sucks. But other than being born, I don’t understand the negativity towards Wolf.

On his own, he’ll get more of the same hate than respect I predict, regardless of the music quality. Hope I’m wrong and he puts out music worthy of his last name that gets the respect it deserves. Nothing more or less and nothing to do with his family name.

    These pants?

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -
