Default Dream Theater "Under A Glass Moon" Solo

Here's one of my favorite John Petrucci solos on my Wolfgang Special with recently swapped out neck and hardware.

This is the guitar into an EVH MXR 5150 OD straight into Logic, no amp.

Folks, Jedi can flat out play.

    Play on, brother.
"He has a swaggering retro machismo that will give hives to the Steinem cabal" -Camille Paglia on Donald Trump

"But, fucking with Brook is like fucking with hot shit on and ax handle. You just don't get a grip"-track5

"Make way for the bad guy"- Tony Montana

'This hamburger don't need no helper"- David Lee Roth

"I wish Bon Jovi would've given me a call before he recorded all of his hits, because the lyrics would've been smarter, the melodies would've been much more smashing, and they would've sold a lot fewer records." -David Lee Roth

"My beef is people thinking Bon Jovi is good cuz they sold lots of records to housewives." -tango

"But being number one doesn’t really mean jack fuck all. We sold twice as many records as other records that year (1984) that landed in the Number One position." ~Eddie Van Halen

BTW, nice shirt. My mom and dad are FSU alums and my grandfather was a music professor there for years. He wasnt a rock guy by any means but he could recognize talent and would have been impressed by that.
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

Amazing job! You did more than just hit the notes, you put the feel into them too. Anyone seeing this will want to learn to play guitar.

If it helps that video was like take 10, lol. A few of those alternate picked lines and the sweeping section were kicking my butt.

Nice! My wife is the Nole in our house, and her college fandom far surpasses mine, so I rep her alma mater whenever I can.

That's completely awesome bro! One of my all time favorite solos.. I was all over that album in like 1994. I think I listened to it every day for 3 months straight. Every song is like perfect. DT got a little beyond my comprehension after Infinity, but Images and Words is a perfect album. I didn't know you were that into Petrucci...

Just curious, not that I would EVER attempt to learn a solo like that (nor could I execute it), but do you do it just by ear or do you study tabs or something? You nailed it so perfectly, I assume you must have studied it somehow...

He's in my top five guitarists easily, if not top three. I don't often learn a lot of his material due to difficulty and tunings, but I do try to cop some of the subtler tricks and aspects of his playing.

There was a time where I would've attempted to learn that whole thing by ear. Then I had a kid. Now time is a rare commodity, and if there's a good tab available than I'm for sure going to use it. So learning this was a combination of a tab or two + watching videos of John playing the solo at about 50% speed on YouTube.
