Default Van Halen II and OU812

While I don't like either of them quite as much as their predecessors (Van Halen and 5150), Van Halen II and OU812 are a couple of my favorite albums from their respective eras. What are everyone's thoughts on these sophomore efforts from 1979 and 1988?

    Both are great albums!
Some wicked material on each of them. I've played songs off each of them many times, live.

when I first started listening to the band VHII was my favorite Dave era record, I listened to it all the time. I still love a lot of songs on it, I mean how can you not like something like Bottoms Up or LUTS? they're great songs. Great record.

I really enjoy a lot of the tunes on OU812, Mine All Mine is one of my all time favorite songs. I love the harmonies on Cabo Wabo and I actually think Al's drums sound fantastic on that song. It's one of my favorite records TBH, came out when I was 16, great summer and this was the soundtrack, love it.

    Both albums are incredibly underrated.

    Especially OU812.

That was the album that turned me into a fanatic.

VH2 is probably my least favourite Dave era album. It's got its high points but I think listen to it less than any other VH record.

Both very solid albums. Wish they would remix and remaster OU812. The production is very poor. It's a shame, because the material on there is very good. VH 2 is pretty much flawless from top to bottom. I wouldn't change one thing at all.

Agreed on both. Really amazing how poorly the production is on OU812. Would love to revisit that record remastered...

OU812 is my favorite Sam era album, production issues aside. LOVE both Ed and Al's tones on that album, and there is some great, diverse songwriting on the album.

VHII is my #3 favorite VH album of all time, after FW and WACF. Just a stellar follow up to the greatest debut of all time, it pretty cemented that the band was for real and not a "one and done" flash. Classic brown sound from Ed, and the tone of Al's toms just sing. Extra points for it being the first album where Al used his Octobans that he bought during the first world tour. The second world tour has perhaps the best live sound Ed or Al achieved, it can at least be argued.

This may very well be the greatest concert VH ever played. Simply jaw dropping musicianship and showmanship displayed by a young, hungry band that, by this point, had to know they were well on there way to being the Kings.

OU812, the album that made me realize VH wasn't my favorite band anymore.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

A man's rights rests in three boxes: the ballot box, the jury box, and the cartridge box
