Metallica and GNR mainly. Then AIC. Later on Rush, I didn't become a huge Rush fan until the 2000's. If songs like When It's Love and Feels So Good were what made a band my favorite, I would have been a die hard REO Speedwagon fan. I wasn't.

People like how the band changed, God bless'em, great. I didn't.

PS - don't shit on Kix - great live band. Going to see the at Hammerjack's is still one of the best concert experiences a wee lad could have had. Great live band in a club setting.

I really became a much bigger fan of VH II after the 2012 tour. I enjoyed Outta Love Again, Women in Love and Beautiful Girls.

Would hope that VH tours again with an addition of DOA to the set.

AFU Naturally Wired is one of the top 5 songs from the Hagar era. Sucker in a 3 Piece is a good rocker. When Its Love has to be the worst closing song in VHs touring history (04).

I can't make that claim, yet AAB is the only tune I sometimes skip on OU812.

KIX are actually one of Nuno's favorite bands.

KIX go way back also, '81 or '82.

Better live act than they are on record. I am sure they are pretty lame now, but in the mid to late 80's that was a high energy show. Great time to be a kid, going to Hammerjack's to see all the great bands that would go through there and play that little club.

I love Side One of OU812 along with "Finish What Ya Started" and "Black and Blue;" not a fan of the rest of it. There's nothing I dislike on Van Halen II.

VH 2 is such a consistent record. I tend to overlook it a bit since yeah following 1 was a huge challenge. It gets very under rated.

OU812, I do think Cabo is great song and BnB is solid but I am not a Van Hagar fan. The loss of Roth's writing ability to me is acutely noticeable here. On 5150 it was such a different direction and had Mick Jones "helping" a lot of the melodies etc... There are spots where Sam's writing works but too much of it feels like demos that need to be re-written especially the melodies. The awful production exacerbates that issue for me. It is criminal that Van Hagar stuff is not remastered for those that dig it. OU812 may be the greatest benefactor of such process.

I see them as quite different.
VHII reached its full potential song-wise and production-wise.
OU812 could've been the best record of the Hagar years and rival the best of the 6 pack.

But a number of mistakes were made during the recording of OU812.
First of all Sammy didn't write lyrics for what should've been the best song of OU812, Source of Infection. I love Sam, but that's on him.
Second, the production has no bottom, you can't hear any bass at all.
Third, the sequencing of the album is wrong. "Mine All Mine" is a great, great song - but a terrible album opener. It should have been "Source" or "A.F.U." And then to go into "When It's Love" - it's way too early to have a ballad in second position. On 5150, the sequencing was error-less and that's what made the record so great.

OU812 is a good album, but a bit of a missed opportunity.

I prefer OU812 to VH II, but both are great. I have five songs from OU812 on my playlist (MAM, WIL, AFU, Cabo, FSG, FWYS) and three from Van Halen II (DTNA, SGMAD, and OLA). I just love the sheer diversity of OU812. As I said before, OU812 was a good producer away from making it a classic.

Yes. I don't have a problem with it at all. DTNA is overplayed. I honestly like all their albums, even 3, but vh2 comes in 10th for me right now.

Dance The Night Away is a great song and VH 2 smokes half of the first 10 albums.
