Now that I've given it a little thought I think that the nut is a big part of the problem. I'm guessing that the strings get caught up in it when I do any sort of bends and then they go flat. I don't even use the trem, I took the bar off because what's the point if the strings are going out of tune when you're not even using it?

The other problem is probably just that I'm used to being able to bend the fuck out of the strings on my EBMM and they never go out of tune because of the Floyd.

I might try making some modifications to that Strat and see if it helps.

    Thanks for the suggestions guys!

I should elaborate on what I meant about your singing after reading it again.

I meant that most singers would sound "bad" if they just stood there and sang in a room with their guitar with no effects.

    Yeah, I get it.

I mentioned that recording studio that we used to rehearse at earlier in the thread. That was my first introduction to how they really make records because I remember we got there early one night to rehearse and they were doing some vocals for a record they were making for some local artist. I swear the guy sang the same line like 20 times before they called it a night. It wasn't even a whole verse or anything.

I was 19 or 20 and had no clue how records were made. I thought they just went in and recorded everything in one take and put it out. I remember thinking "if you give me 20 different times to play a couple notes on my guitar I'm going to have a pretty good take."

Before that little "ah ha" moment I always wondered why recordings of my band sounded like shit. To say nothing of being recorded on a VHS with a shitty mic. I remember I had one of our shows on VHS and after kind of learning a little about how they really record I tried to make a better sounding tape on my little Tascam 4 track to shop around for potential gigs. I was able to make it sound a little better by fooling around with the EQ and adding some reverb and chorus here and there, but the source recording was still mono so I couldn't do anything to separate and mix the different instruments for a better recording.

Dude I didnt even know what overdubs were.

Yeah, I was pretty naive about music recording when I was younger. Like I would have thought there were two guitarists playing RWTD instead of Ed overdubbing during the solo.

I didnt figure it out until I started reading interviews in GFTPM and stuff like that. Like I would have thought Boston was a real band and not Tom Sholz playing all the instruments himself.

Totally. I think it's pretty funny too and it was me that was fucking clueless.

Another funny story was the first club gig I ever played. We had only played backyard parties and shit like that. So we get to this place and the sound guy comes up and asks me how I like my cabinet miced. I'm like WTF does that mean? I didnt know that they ran everything through a mixing board and then out of speakers into the audience. I thought they only did that at big outdoor venues. So I didnt know what to say to the guy.

It ended up not mattering because after screwing around with sound check for 10 or 15 minutes he gave up because we were too loud anyway. He kept telling me I had to turn my amp down and the sound would come from the sound board but I thought my 5150 sounded mushy unless I had the master volume between at least 4 and 5 and his shitty system couldn't handle that. We're not exactly talking professional equipment here in this podunk club. LOL!
