Yeah, FSG isn't a bad song. But it's just not the kind of music that I'm a big fan of.

What I always loved about VH was that their pop stuff was delivered with a punch in the face like Jamie's Cryin', DTNA, and I'll Wait.

WCTBL and FSG just went too pop for my tastes. To openly and unabashedly pop IMO.
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

With Mike there's never any colorful adjectives...it's always just his BG vocals. Poor thing.
LOL. There's only one guy that thinks that.

And yeah, he apparently gives Wolfie more due than Mikey. There's a reason for that I suppose.

    Scrapped GGB?

Son, you're gonna need to repeat the class.

GGB is epic and is THE best track on 1984.

You're not wrong about HFT. But you are seriously lost about GGB. It's literally in the top five barn burners in the entire 10 album discography. By country miles.

1984 is brilliant if you can get past the two Beverly Hills Cop score, opening pieces:

Girl Gone Bad is absolute "mad genius" Eddie.
I'll Wait is a ballad with balls and personality.
Top Jimmy is insane, no other hard rock band ever did anything like that.
Hot for Teacher is the epitome of Van Halen. To this day.
Panama, Legs & House, are all full throttle CVH, fun but not dumb.
Graver, Walking Ed, refugee from CVH & proud tone chaser...

    No offense, you silly bastard.
There's that word silly again, and this time you turned it into a modifier for bastard. That's another powerful word when used in the right context.

While I engaged in a bit of hyperbole on the ash heap comment, I do think 5150 was two good songs away from being considered the band's best album from either era. At least in the conversation for it. I know that debut is hard to beat.

I slag on Dave, but I really did come to respect his perseverance, drive, and vision after reading Van Halen Rising. I do think Van Halen I and Fair Warning are rock n' roll masterpieces, and not just because of Eddie Shredder. Cheers to Dave!

Easily. It also pretty much trumps every other track within the first six albums with the possible exceptions of ITO, On Fire, IASR, and Fair Warning.

All else pales to GGB. It's a fucking monster.

I don't concur on 5150, but it is a very good album.

It's literally their defining track (for the diehards). It's got it all. Instrumentation, Dave at his best, wicked Eddie solo, Alex showcase, Mike showcase, ripping yet fun, intro-solo-outro signature VH, immediately definable by diehards and casuals alike, obviously the best MTV video they ever did, etc., etc.

HFT is the track we'd give to aliens to exemplify what Van Halen is. Period.
