Why Can’t This Be Love is definitely preferable to Ill Wait for me.

That said I’ll Wait has an awesome guitar solo.

There are several songs that are quintessential on 1984 and Drop Dead Legs is definitely one of them.

The thread title is about 1984 the album. Why is WCTBL and FSG brought into the equation? What do those songs have to do with 1984?

Gosh, at least TRY and be unique or clever when starting another Dave v Sam shitfest.

Which was lame because you had to throw in Sam era and for what? Another shitfest?

I may be a majority of one that thinks every song on 1984 is great-to-awesome except I'll Wait and Girl Gone Bad. I truly have disdain for those songs. Those two songs sully an otherwise stellar album. You swap out those two songs with two good songs and 1984 may eclipse Van Halen I.

5150 was two good songs away from relegating the Roth years to the ash heap of history. Nix Get Up and Inside (the latter of which I actually like) and replace them with two good songs and you've got the greatest Van Halen record ever recorded. I think Mike said that the music for Source of Infection was already out there during the 5150 recordings. If Sammy had written lyrics for that song during those recordings with Mick Jones at the wheel, it would have been one of the killer additions to that album, along with a finished product on I Want Some Action. Give me that album and I lose all other Van Halen records except Balance.

As for 1984 and the quintessential Van Halen song, Hot for Teacher is THE quintessential Roth era song on any album. Damn, I love everything about that song.

A lot of us ask why WCTBL and FSG were brought into the equation...

How many beers did you have before typing this nonsense?

David Lee Roth was one dumb decision in 1985 from relegating Sammy Hagar to a journeyman solo artist. I get that a lot of you guys don't care for Dave, but when you start diminishing his contributions to some of the greatest rock & roll songs ever recorded, I start to question your objectivity.

    No offense, you silly bastard.

    Exactly.

It's not about "hating FSG" but if you got into VH I in 1978 hearing I'm The One it's probably not a song that's high on your list of favorites.
