If Van Halen was going to release anything for a reunion tour in 2004, then it should have been a new album. Since Eddie was a total mess, then it should have been Best of Volume II. I'm picking hits, guys, not deep cuts. That is what best of volumes are all about.

    Jamie's Cryin'
Feel Your Love Tonight or Ice Cream Man
    Somebody Get Me a Doctor
    Beautiful Girls
    Everybody Wants Some
So This is Love or Pretty Woman
    I'll Wait

    BOBW
    Love Walks In
    FWYS
    Runaround
    Top of the World
    DTMWLCD
    Not Enough

One or two new Sam Halen tracks, which should have been culled from their unfinished demos when the the creativity was flowing.

Lol, I'm one of the few who liked the admittedly messy 2004 tracks. Far from Van Hagar's best, but still better than shameless pop schlock like CSLY, Not Enough, or FSG.

The only thing I dont like about UFB is the lyrics and that's probably because I'm older and dont fibd it amusing for a 50 year old guy to be writing lyrics like that.

Dont get me wrong, I think stuff like Big Balls and Tube Snake Boogie are hilarious, but Bon and Billy were a lot younger when they penned those.

Could you imagine Dave singing Put Out the Lights on ADKOT?
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

Agreed. And yeah, I'm glad Dave rewrote the lyrics to the old demos.

As far as UFB, I always liked the groove of it. And the lyrics are bad, but I did like Sam's vocal melody and delivery.

Learning To See was my fav of the three. Great performance by Al on that.

I thought UFB & LTS, were about as compelling as VHIII.

Just awful, unfocused music & lyrics.
    They weren't even trying.

And then you had Eddie with the creepy, meth induced grin & Pebbles haircut.
Nothing redeeming about 2004 at all.

It was a truly sad time for Eddie, his family, and his fans. I was, simultaneously, angry at and sad for him. Now, I hope he wakes everyday and loves himself.

I still wonder how he was able to get & stay clean.

When you're that far gone, and he was, it's virtually impossible.
My old supor just died, hardcore into booze & meth.
A former co-worker, barely into his 30's, dead two years back.
We loved the guy, but he'd show up to work fucked up, blaming it
    on prescription meds.

I just see these guys that CANNOT stop.
The younger guy had huge family support, an intelligent person, yet he
could not dig himself out from that hole.

    I think it's a couple of things.

His brother was in bad shape too and he was able to overcome it.

And don't discount the love of his son and the love he has for his son.

That's why I get pissed when people start slamming Wolf and VH4. It isn't that i dont want Mike back in the band, its that I understand the scenario and the fact that if wasn't for Wolf Ed is probably dead now.

To me that is more important than any personal desires I may have to see the original line up on stage again. That would be great, but it's not about me. It's about what keeps Ed clean and sober and if the lack of output and touring is part of that so be it.

I feel like there had to have been more, maybe special Doctors in Europe.

To be that fucked up for that long, then suddenly become almost Professor like in appearance.
That kid i knew, he had all kinds of interventions & love.
He'd be like: I'm clean, that stuff is over & done, and then he was in the ground.
    Just seeing that guy's obituary...

I'm just curious how he was able to do it & stay clean for so long.
Then again, Clapton did it to & he lost his son.

Honestly, even when he left it still felt like he was in the band. The tunes were still played quite a bit, he talked about VH all the time...'98 was the only time , but that didn't last long. Then, he was back again.

Too me, it's almost like he was in the band almost 18 years.

Didn’t need any of the two best of/greatest hits albums. As for the 2004 songs, would be interesting to hear how Eddie would have written them today with a clearer mind and his current gear.

The music wasn't really the problem with the 2004 songs....
