Default The Magic of Dave Solo

Was thinking about this the other day while driving around listening to his strange newer Greatest Hits CD--what I love about it is how it brings the sunshine.

Granted it was beautiful summer day to crank "Goin' Crazy!," "Paradise," and "A Lil' Ain't Enough" to, but even in the shitty wintertime Diamond Dave's solo music brings in that summertime feeling. For some reason I think the light background keyboards from EEAS to ALAE add to it. Especially all of those non-hits.

It's lifts the spirits, too. In a different way. Not to get all cunty, but I get really moved by "Dreams," "Top of the World," "Right Now," "Give to Live," etc. in a deep way. This isn't deep, it's just "fun!" Such a sense of humor to them, too.

I remember right after I got divorced years ago I was depressed, naturally. Popped in some Eat 'em and Smile and immediately felt "fuck her, I laugh to win" and 100 times better.

    God bless ya, DLR!
    Dave

Precisely why I liked Sammy in Van Halen, as well.
Lifts the spirits, it's fun, it's not too deep (althogh they did also have those great moments), and I got moved by the music.... Same as your ^^^ mentions about Dave's solo stuff.

I still like EEAS, a couple off Skyscraper, a couple off ALAE, and two from his first solo E.P.

Never bothered to check out any more. And before the always presumable backlash kicks in, I don't own a single Sammy solo cd other than Unboxed. Same for his side project bands etc.

Dave had some good solo stuff on those first 3 albums.

DLR Band has some very good material. His best work solo still remains unreleased.

I still have never heard anything off DLR Band, except Slam Dunk. I really should look into that stuff one of these days...

Ahh, that seems to be "The One" that people usually talk about. Thanks, track, I'm going to look it up on YT right now.

Hot damn! Thanks for reminding me of this tune, track! How in the HELL have I never listened to this before?!? Easily one of the best solo tunes of Dave's career. I wish he would sing like this more these days. It would be so much easier on his voice and would save his voice during a VH tour.

"Black Sand" is easily Top 10 Daver for me. Check out "Going Places...." and "Little Texas" from that album, too, if you haven't heard them.

    Here:

Never saw this vid before...well done! Ha, never made the "shack/Shaq" connection:

Such a shame that was the only song they played live. I met Ray Luzier back in '00 and he said he was bummed they didn't, too.
