    Default Best Buy has stopped selling CDs

    Wow! I just saw this on Twitter. Best Buy has stopped selling CDs! The end of the print article says Target will be selling "fewer" in coming months, too. Glad I videotaped myself unwrapping my Hank, Jr. set. I knew it would be possibly the last brand new CD I would buy (actually I guess Fleetwood Mac's "very best of" will be the last). I know some of you will say, "I'm totally modern and have been using iTunes and Spotify for years now, dude!," but I hate seeing this era pass.

    They'll still be selling vinyl for at least two years, though.

    Surprised they lasted this long. They've been cutting the CD stock for years.
    Still, betcha at the holidays they have an end cap of Christmas CD's.
    Plenty of new CD's on Amazon and Ebay too buy.

    And one day Amazon will run out of all its CD's. This will happen in our lifetimes because they simply wont be manufactured anymore.

    Best to get on-board with streaming exclusively. Baby steps. Your next music purchase...force yourself to buy the digital download.

    yeah, let's just stream everything... My cable company is finally offering a sort of a-la-carte service - via streaming. Of course, that's how I kind of work now - either via the antenna or steaming over Hulu live. I'd prefer a cable box for the non over-the-air viewing, but i'm sure those are probably just going to be streaming devices soon if they are not already.

    Not really sure what happens when CDs become readily unavailable. Some might say I have enough already, but I have a list of ones I'd get if I could get them new, at a normal price (and not cut out). and there are more beyond that. I"m sure if streaming becomes the only way to enjoy music I'll have to get on board, I don't know. Prefer not to find out.

    I one of those goof balls who still likes liner notes and artwork. For me that is a big part of the experience. I don't get that with Itunes or spotify.

    I bought far more new VINYL then CDs last year. You get plenty of artwork and they are fun to play. In the last 5 years I have bought maybe 2 or 3 cds.

    At work I am about 50/50 for using mp3s off the hard drive and streaming music via spotify or Youtube. In the truck it is about 50/50 as well.

    Rare to even put in a cd.

    Vinyl,reel to reel, 8 track, cassette, cd. If you remember using the first 4 you are OLD!
    EVH 1979: Well, actually it's not much of a vacation, because we run everything ourselves. We design our own album cover, we have to be in the office every day to sign checks - the whole corporation revolves around us. Nothing can be done without our approval. We even have photo approval.

    I am very surprised that people still talk about CD's. Don't you guys use Spotify or Amazon Prime? With Amazon Prime membership you basically just add any album you want to your music library. Same with Spotify, and its free with some commercials. Or for the price of 1 CD per month, you have access to every album on the planet. You can create playlists, listen to other people's play lists. Listen to any genre. I have an excellent Bluetooth speaker system that can connect to my laptop or phone. I don't even own a CD player and newer cars don't have them either. Streaming is not the future, it's the present.

    When i moved, i literally dumped all of my CD's.
    And DVD's.

    I use spotify, which is great, but still have a shitload of mp3's on an external drive.
    Some of my favorite porn is on that drive as well.

    I kinda love it, though.

    No more clutter with dusty jewel cases & DVD storage walls.
    No more accidental porn discoveries by GF's or visitors (oh, it used to happen a lot!)

    Back in the Winter, i was at Newbury Comics and they had a vinyl sale, so i bought
    the new double "Ends with And" Helium collection.

    It's still shrink wrapped, near my desk!

    I'm glad i have it, but i'll never play it because i bought it on iTunes, before that.

    I’ll admit that I play the majority of my music on my iPod, but I still like that physical copy. And if i’m relaxing in the living room, i’m going to want to play the CD. But most of my listening is in the office, followed by the car. So yeah, the iPod

    Only streaming i’m interested in doing is when that water has passed through me...

    There's always that guy, "Who has a home phone anymore?," "Who has a DVD player anymore?," "Who turns their own steering wheel and pumps their own brake pedal anymore?"

    I have every CD I could want, all in the basement and throughout the house, in my control, not on a corporation's server. They only cost the price I paid for them (usually used), not with a new $10 fee every month (that you know will only go higher). I can convert them to any format, listen to them on any kind of device, into infinity. And I'm slowly getting them and my movies ripped to an external drive, as well.

    This is the same as the driverless car bullshit. After 20 years of people running amok and doing what they wanted with music, corporations are convincing them giving control back to the corporations is hip. Soon if you want to go to a political rally -- whoops! Your driverless car is taking you to McDonald's! Must've been a bad chip somewhere...

    I don't do clutter. I may need to move and I'll be damned if I'm lugging around 20,000 cd's or books for that matter.
