Default A fun question- which guitar/pedal would you choose?

After lurking here for years, and then being a member for a while... I can finally post! Woohoo!

I thought I'd ask something fun for my first post (and hopefully the mods don't facepalm and say, "Geez, WHY did we give this guy posting privileges?"). Let's say you get a call from a buddy of yours who is a singer in a rock/pop cover band. He tells you his guitar player got ill and can't make the gig that starts in a couple hours. You check your watch, and you have to leave for the gig site right away. In addition to the usual covers, he promises you that he'll throw Unchained and Black and Blue into the set list, just for helping him out. Here's the question: you have time to grab exactly 1 guitar and 1 effects pedal (your buddy happens to have a Marshall combo amp you can borrow) - what would you choose?

I'll start it off: I'd take my Wolfgang Special and my MXR Carbon Copy.

Any one of my Wolfgang specials/or stealth with the stock pickups (more versatile), and my eventide pitchfactor. With the pitchfactor I can put in a delay, too

My Wolfgang Special, it's super versatile as it has a 6 way switch.

You'll need a good delay if you want the Black and Blue solo to sound like the record.

I had an old Boss Stereo Chorus/Delay that did the trick. So if it was me I'd bring that and my EBMM.
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

Great question! I don't know, something passable... let's call it a Marshall JVM 410C.

You gotta play all the rest of the rock/pop covers too, so you need versatility.

I'd take my HSH partscaster, which is my #1 guitar for my Top 40 cover band anyways. If I still had it I'd take a Line 6 M9, but since I don't I guess I'd have to take my Boss DD-500. The Boss can do delays, chorus and a few other tricks.

My customized 1998 Mexi-Strat. Sunburst, maple neck. Babicz full contact bridge, Locking tuners, graphite string tree, EVH volume pot, tones disconnected, Dimarzio Fasttrack 2 in Bridge, Seymour Duncan Hot Rails in neck, 3-way switch, Schaller strap locks I bought in 1987. My backup guitar is a stock EVH Wolf standard in ZillaBurst.

Pedal? Boss NS-2 Noise Gate. I can throw that in front of any amp and play with as much gain as I want because it cuts the signal from the front of the amp when you stop playing.

The only guitar worth a damn that I own is my Pacer, which I'm going to put a Custom Custom in, so let's just assume it's already in there. I only have two pedals right now: a Boss DD-3 and PS-6. However, I'm not sure if this is cheating and evading the point of the question, but I also have a multi-effects board. I could just make two presets with the appropriate effects for those songs in a matter of minutes.

However, if I have to choose one of my effects, I'm going with the DD-3, since I think the delay is a more central part of Eddie's sound no matter which era we're talking about.

I keep my DD-3 on all the time and basically use it as a reverb.

DD-3 is hands down the best delay I've ever heard. I tried an MXR and some other shit, and nothing seems to sounds as "pristine" as the DD-3. I keep waiting for someone to offload one on craigslist locally.

I would grab my black Strat with the Perpetual Burn, and my Boss DD-5. The only reason I wouldn't bring the Wolfgang is since I only have one guitar, if I break a string, I don't have to screw around with the locking nut to change it.

Totally off-topic, but for some reason this reminds me of the story GE Smith told of The Replacements' one-and-only appearance on SNL- the band got pretty hammered before the show, and the guitar player fell down and broke his guitar on the way out to the stage. Smith handed him one of his own guitars, and the band went out and performed (I know the performance got them banned from SNL, but I thought "Bastards of Young" was terrific).

My favorite guitar to play is my Westone, but since it was made in 1988, the company went out of business, and you can't get replacement parts for it anymore, there is no way I would take it to a gig (the last time it saw a stage was 2005). I don't have the same connection with my Wolfgang as I do with my Westone, but the Wolfgang is versatile and fun to play... and if something happened to it, at least replacements parts are easy to come by.

I would probably end up using my Kramer Pacer Classic with Custom Custom/VEH pickups. As for the pedal, maybe my MXR Analog Chorus.
