Yeah, the "all eras" fans weren't too excited about Tucson, which i thought was odd.
Plus, you had the rehearsal footage, Ed wanting to eat his burger, some crazy mandolin ditty...

That stuff was/is so freakin' cool.

I think your are missing the point. At least for me. I have seen a ton of the early original and superior versions of the Dave Era clips. However, I donít recall Seeing anything similar from the Sam Era. This just hit me me as unique, new and kick ass. Not better than the original. Just something super cool from my second favorite Era that I had not seen before. The vibe of that clip is infectious. Certainly didnít mean I prefer it to original VH. Thereís an energy in this clip that is fucking cool. Not (although Iím sure it will
turn into) a Sam v Dave debate. UHG

And thy look so young. Something we only really see with the original lineup. Not sure of their ages but Sam looks
Like a 20 something even knowing heís older.
Plus Mikeís importance really struck me in this clip.
He more assertive, not hiding behind Ed, Al and Dave.
Different dynamic than I have seen before. So, all of that I found
    cool. SUE ME!

Looks like Ed is using the Soldano head, pre 5150. Very Cool... I'll tell you what - regardless of what "era" of VH you prefer, think how lucky we all are to have grown up with these guys. I just can't really think of any other band that I identify with more. Even for all their quirkiness and bullshit - I'll still take these guys over ANY other rock band in history.

Love these old videos like this.
The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.

And the opening night footage from the Cabo Wabo also sounds killer!
Eddie did some wicked playing and was on his game. One of the many reasons why I love the Hagar years - so many video clips, both proshot and audience filmed. I like the sight as well as sound aspect more often than not.

Same with the Dave era, yet there's precious little out there. I'd love the vault to be opened or for more collectors/hoarders to share any video footage, but for now...

And VH still jammed and extended solos, breakdowns etc. quite a bit when Sammy was in the band. Like Eddie himself noted back then "We haven't lost that rock and roll!"

As for the Tuscon show, just got around to digesting it and the first word that comes to mind is COCAINE. haha.

It's cool, certainly a welcome curiosity, but it wasn't earth-shattering for me. Maybe my love has waned. Good tone on Ed's behalf, but the mix seems a little lopsided and he plays that harmonics lick like every other bar. Blazing solo spot. Some other fine moments, but a lot of missed bits from Dave, as usual. Maybe the mixed blessings are why there's not a lot of support for the official release talk.

I say all this as a more of a Dave-era fan. Not trying to stir the pot. Just where I'm at with it at the moment.

How about his guitar solo in the song 5150....that should have been the one on the record. He is stretching here much more than in the recorded version. That's the cool thing...never the same solo twice. That's how it is when he does his spontaneous "non planned" solos.

I've been on a steady diet of Dave era music for a couple of years, but every once in a while I hear some of the songs that "went off to college" and realize I've been needlessly depriving myself. I can't remember the last time I heard AFU, but damn, that is a great song and it's done complete justice on this video.

Eddie did some wildly different solos live on songs like 5150, Summer Nights, One Way to Rock, Cabo Wabo, etc. Many songs, if not all of them, from LWAN show this approach. As well as extending or ad libbing the breakdowns of several songs, an obvious one being the rap that Sammy does in Panama, from RHRN.

Also you can tell he messed up or missed his cue to come out of certain solos, like Aftershock (Jon Stewart Show), Amsterdam (Jon Stewart Show), Feelin' (Toronto '95), etc. and he and the band had to keep chugging along until they found their place. Ie: jamming and spontaneous playing/taking risks.

Those who say that the Sammy era was "safe", "sterile", "too perfect" etc. in concert are just missing the boat IMO. They were still very dangerous with Hagar, and still very much a rock and roll band. Albeit, one with an even broader vocabulary and musical pallet to draw from.
