Default J.D. Simo - awesome guitar player

Move over Joe Bonamassa! I've become fascinated with this J.D. Simo guy. (I actually like his style a lot better than I ever did Bonamassa.) He's in his mid-30's, which seems like a kid to me now, but he's obviously a student of old school guitar, particularly Mick Taylor and Cream-era Eric Clapton. He's also great with the chicken pickin' and can turn around and do the Les Paul jazz style, too. Lots of great videos of him demoing vintage gear, including Ed King's (Lynyrd Skynyrd) priceless stuff.

Go to :40 to have your mind blown.

Such a beast of a player. He's got a few videos of a jam with Tommy Emmanuel and god damn, do they smoke...

Also, those Yaron Les Paul's are the cream of the crop when it comes to replica's of ANY instrument. Works of art.

I found this band on YouTube that does faithful covers of many artists, and they had JD Simo sit in with them on a Johnny Cash classic. They guy just kills it!

That guy is great, though he looks like Jack White, which is distracting somehow.

When he launches into the rapid fire blues runs, he sounded like Jimmy Page if
Jimmy Page had razor sharp & clean chops.

He has that Pagey tone, one of his tones, and some of his phrases.

What's even greater in this video is at 6:05 he plays some swing stuff using his thumb as the bass note. Then at 7:12 as the Echoplex is playing the echo of what he's played a minute earlier, he starts soloing over his own chords! Then when he switches to lead on the tape, he starts playing chords to himself! It's like he used the Echoplex as an ancient loop pedal, although I think he did this on the spot, not planned.

    [/QUOTE]

I'd never heard of Tommy Emmanuel, but now I've got TWO new guys to listen to! At first in this jam I thought, "At the :20 mark I would say, 'I'm out of here!,' but Emmanuel really picks up as the song goes along! Not only is it deranged that J.D. Simo can play like he does, but he sings really well, too! I saw a clip of him and Emmanuel doing "A Little Help from My Friends," and Simo can do a great Joe Cocker.

The squeals they both do at the end of this song, on non-tremolo guitars, is awesome.

I always wonder how many people today know Brad Paisley is ripping off James Burton. Burton said his mom had that velvet paisley wallpaper in the dining room that was popular in the `50's, and he got the idea to cut some off and wrap it around his guitar. Thus his trademark -- and Brad Paisley's -- was born.

James is so cool! Know the man well. My wife’s family works for him and we get to go to functions, his semi annual guitar show concerts he does here in Shreveport, and the man is so giving, especially to his community and children. Always donating guitars to musical programs to teach kids the importance of music, learning music and how music builds bonds between people. Because of him, I’ve had the true honor of not only getting to know him, but meeting some guitar giants that come to play at his festivals.

    True legend and gentleman!

Brad Paisley is usually very complimentary toward James Burton and his huge influence.

As Brad Paisley sums it up, “James Burton is the reason we all play.”

He even had him on his record. "Cluster Pluck" features Brad Paisley, James Burton, Vince Gill and more.

Also Brad and Vince did Working Man Blues in 2010. Tribute to Merle Haggard and James Burton.

Brad is an absolute monster guitar player.

I'm not a Bro Country kinda guy, but that cat is lethal on the guitar.
He's like the Nuno of Country music.

And like Nuno, he looks great.
He's got that image of a Cowboy gunslinger with a tele.

I think a lot of these youtube wunderkinds are missing a sort of defining
    presentation.
Brad looks the way he sounds.
The best players have all the aces, where the visual & musical become one thing.

Except for Guthrie Govan, who looks like he lives in a box behind a cottage.
