    Default Little Guitars intro inspiration

A long time ago I read where Eddie said his inspiration for the Little Guitars intro was a cheap cassette he had gotten of a flamenco guitarist named Carlos Montoya. At that time the Record Bar at the mall had a display of cheap classical music cassettes by the front door, including one by Carlos Montoya. I bought it and at least when I was in middle school, I thought I could hear the beginnings of that song in the opening track.

I've still got the cassette! I should digitize this.

You can definitely hear the influence, and not just with Little Guitars.

It's funny because the attack on the way Carlos plays the faster passages sounds a lot like Ed's quick runs during the early years. Every note is picked with ferocity in little three/four note shapes similar to what you hear early in Eruption or his ascending lick that he did for years during his solo spot.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

Exactly right. Take those same licks that are being heard here (and Spanish Fly) and pump them through a Marshall and you'll hear Eddie's fast runs from the early days.

Those ascending Spanish Fly licks were huge inspirations to the LA guys that followed:
    Lynch: Into the fire
    Demartini: Morning After

Even Yngwie used them in "On the run again," which might be one of my all time fave
    Yngwie tunes & solos.

Akira used them too, in the early days of Loudness.

The solo in this tune has the "Cathedral" volume swells, pre-Diver Down.

Then he shreds your face off with a combination of EVH meets Gary Moore!

OK. But "every note picked??!?!" - Eddie was never one of those "every note has to be picked" kinda guys, a la Steve Morse.

    Good catch, Art!
We all know Eddie had plenty of classical influence and training in his formative years. Not suprised some of those ideas and techniques crept into his playing, and years later, our ears.

There's also that etude piece that has the trem picked Eruption melody, which he obviously 'borrowed' and that Cactus tune Let Me Swim which lays out the intro structure of that instrumental.

He claimed, circa 1984, that his favorite classical composers were Debussy and Chopin.

Yeah, Ed was more left hand, though he could pick pretty fast.

In Spanish Fly he's picking like Yngwie, with that ascending pattern.
When he goes back down, his left hand/legato technique is incredible.
He's really articulating those notes well, pulling & hammering.

I never got the appeal.Heard a few clips along the way but nothing really grabbed me for some reason.
Probably good stuff, yet never wanted or cared to delve into it. Same as RATT and a myriad of other bands.

No biggie , we can`t all like the same stuff . But check out the title of his solo piece and tell what other band/guitarist song title inspired it , shouldn't be too hard LOL . He sounds more like Gary Moore here with a few nods to Ed and Randy Rhoads

I felt like his technique hit an all time peak on the album, Soldier of Fortune.

I remember his ability was at an astounding level: Alternate picking, Sweeps, Tapping, legato, rhythm...

That fucking tape got worn out!
