    Wow! I mean that, wow!
Way back in the day, there was this other poster on another site who idolized Ed, Randy, Moore, and Akira.

Uncanny... I love the first three legends.

It's funny because the attack on the way Carlos plays the faster passages sounds a lot like Ed's quick runs during the early years.
That hammer-on/pull off thing he does at :30 sounds very much like what's in "Eruption." They always say Yngwie was "classically" influenced, but you don't hear a lot of harmonic minor scales in classical music, that's more a flamenco thing, which is a different genre.

When I got this tape it further drove me nuts, because the insert says Carlos Montoya never learned to read music. I was thinking, "I don't get it! I'm sitting here with a bunch of Mel Bay books and this guy in Spain can't even read music and he's blazing past me! WHAT'S GOING ON?!"

I thought I read Eddie talking about this guy in my old Masters of Heavy Metal book from Guitar Player magazine, but I just looked and the interviews only cover up to WACF. I know he talked about "frailing" and how he couldn't do it so he just hammered on the low notes really hard with his left hand. I feel pretty sure he said he'd gotten the tape in a bargain bin, so when I got this and heard that opening bit I felt sure I probably had the same tape Eddie did. But where was the interview from, and how did I read it around 8th grade?

Nothing wrong with being inspired by Montoya. I had the same cassette and I really enjoy his playing. I always thought Spanish Fly was Eddie's homage to Montoya.
