Default Destiny's 40 year reunion gig

Hey all. My dad's cousin's band I was invited to play in for their reunion show had the gig about a week ago, still editing the board sound, but I have some videos taken of the stage that don't sound as bad as I expected.
This band (remaining alive members being Charlie (on keyboards), Billy (on drums), Claudia (on vocals), and Terry (cousin, on bass), wrote some GREAT music 40 years ago and it's my pleasure to start sharing some of that with you all. We're planning on laying them down in studio recordings, just for the record books.

Here's "Hold On" and "Technical Terror"

My favorite part in this video starts at the 4:00 mark. Charlie and I both play almost identical solo bits in that breakdown, completely unrehearsed. Just about all my solos were at least half improv, which is always fun. Six months ago I wouldn't have had the confidence to do that.

Playing my 2015 tour Wolf replica, with my Rude behind me as a back up. Brough out both the stealth head and the Peavey to both power one of my stereo Marshall cabs, double miked through the PA for all the stereo harmonizing goodness

Hope you enjoyed! I'll share some more soon.

"Take it From Here" and "That's OK"

My guitar was very low in the mix during the first song, afterwards I had him boost me up quite a bit. The overly flanged guitar in the first song isn't me :P. I think I wasn't even in my monitor during the first song, so I couldn't even hear myself, but we've all been there.

One of the lessons I learned playing with these guys is that a solo boost when you're playing in a band needs to be quite a bit louder than the solo boost you probably use when playing by yourself.

Sounds darn good, especially for an outside tent gig!
I'm glad to see long time jamming friends getting together, after so many years.
Technical Terror was kinda hinting at SAITP/OFOTD.

And sure enough, there's that trusty good ol' dog, right there at your feet.
You must have had that dog since you were a toddler.

Actually I only met that dog an hour before that video, it just happened to take a liking to me!

Sounds good... Cool Steinberger there.. My oldest bro was the plant manager in the mid 80's, still works with Jeff Babicz to this day. I always love seeing those pop up in videos. Steinberger was a big part of my childhood. I would have been pissed about the porta potty situated right behind the tent!

So what you're saying is that you're dad's cousins band could find the time to get together to celebrate their 40th Anniversary, but VH couldn't.

All kidding aside, that was actually really solid.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

HEAVILY Styx inspired . Styx was one of the handful of bands that inspired their music back in the day. Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight came out while they were writing these songs.

    Great job, Dave!
Those kinds of outings are a lot of fun.
Nice to see old friends and bandmates having a reunion gig, as well as having a new twist...

I really like "That's Okay". Cool tune.

Nice, dude. You fit in well with them, sounded like you've been playing with them for 40 years.

Tip on the lead boosts: An EQ can be a more powerful lead boost than a volume knob can be, especially when in you're in a band with an additional guitar or a keyboard. If you've got the ability to craft a mid boost within any of your pedals I'd experiment with that. For years my lead boost was a '76 MXR 6-band EQ (like Ed's) that I modified to have a switch and run off a power supply. Super effective. Nowadays I have channel 3 on my 5150iii set to have more mids since its pretty exclusively my lead channel. If it's less gainy leads then a Tube Screamer is a good boost because they usually have a nice mid bump built in.

Hmm, I could put one MXR EQ in my fourth pedal switch slot, I have a BE-OD there that I NEVER use. That would free up to use CH3 without strictly being a volume/gain boosted Ch2.... I'll find an EQ and experiment, thanks!

Maybe you already did this, but...
For true stereo, out in front for the crowd, try panning one amp mic hard left, and the other mic hard right.
Like that, you'll probably want to stand out in the center, in the crowd watching the band, because your guitar would sound behemoth.

I used to do this years ago, with my old POS Line6, with direct outs to the board, panned hard L & R, and it sounded unbelievable.
