The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

I still think Sammy joined the band that David helped build.

Without Dave, there's no band to join.

And without that band to join, Sam would still be rich, but musically, an Eddie Money/
80's kinda dude you see at the Hampton Beach Casino.

That is quite likely THE most hilarious thing I've ever read...

Yeah...because NOBODY had ever heard of Van Halen before Sammy came along and put 'em on the map...

i don't see them having any incentive to play anymore. i really don't. the fantasy part of me says they'll tour again but i can't see it at this point.

Oh Eddie was definitely already an awesome guitarist. I was speculating on his early over the top style that shot out of the speakers. Could some of those attention grabbing things be a reaction to who he was standing next to? A band is a organic entity. Each member effects the other members. Hard to believe being right beside Dave onstage didn't effect how Eddie acted and played.

And from all accounts, Eddie did indeed just stand in one spot and stare at his shoes before Dave joined. Not to mention the stage clothes change that came from Dave.

Not really. If you did not have the Hagar era, which kept the band's name in the spotlight for another 10 year, producing the bulk of the band's top 40 and Mainstream Rock Number 1 hits, then the band could easily have been forgotten. If you are out of sight, out of mind too long, the public moves on to something else.

People also seems to quickly forget that VHI did not just break out as an all time classic. The album peaked at 19 on the charts. Half of its certified sales, happened after DLR left the band, and during the Hagar years. If there is no Hagar era to keep the band's name still in the public consciousness, then a lot of the sales that helped established VHI as legendary may not have happened.

You mean songs like "I'll Wait" or "Jump" or "Just Like Paradise" or "Just a Gigolo"?
