Interesting vid. "Liberation" of Munich by US forces. Engaging SS elements on the outskirts of city. I suppose many if the German citizens didn't care for the SS either. Plus they were ready for the whole thing to be over.

Came across this on YouTube. Don't want to wait til next June. Donnie Edwards is a former NFL player who works to take vets back to visit European battlefields, Normandy and others.

    Morning of September 14th, 1814. . . . . our flag was still there.

Interestingly, the British left Baltimore for New Orleans . . . where Andrew Jackson and a welcoming party would be waiting.

Saw it yesterday. I was worried it was going to be overly CGI'ed. But I came away impressed with the effort. They definitely tried to get it accurate, right down to the type of Anti-Aircraft weapons employed on US ships in the early part of the War. The movie was a bit overly ambitious, as it dealt with Pearl Harbor, Doolittle bombing of Tokyo, Battle of the Coral Sea and of course, Midway. Some of the air battles and actions seemed a little congested. Scenes of Director John Ford running around on Midway during the battle getting movie shots, as he did, were interesting. Inefficiencies of the US torpedoes and intel re: reading the Japanese code were accurate. All in all a good movie I thought, much more accurate than Pearl harbor of a few years back. I'd recommend seeing it.

Very glad to hear that, I had the same over-CGI type concerns. The previews made me think it was going to be just an over blown Transformers kind of movie.

I will probably now try to see it.

Good movie, posted about it in the movies thread. Just thanking you guys for the thumbs up, probably don't go without that. I liked it. My daughter liked it (she's 15), although at the end she was kind of bummed, she thought it was about the USS Midway, LOL. Didn't realize the carrier was named for the battle, and didn't participate. We visited the Midway last year on a swing through LA and SD.

It was a good enough movie that I jumped on Google to see what ever happened to the lead character - lived to 91 years old.

I spent some time in Shed 2 at Pope Army Airfield yesterday. For those not aware, this is where the paratroopers gather before they go to jump.

Hundreds, if not more of true heros under one roof. It sent a chill down my spine.
