I donít know man seems like a really disjointed bunch of wankery actually. Itís just a drawn out mess imo. I really just donít like anything on that album from any standpoint.

Also, I suspect Hagar would probably have written some corny 8th grade lyrics that would have turned what I believe to be a great tune and significant departure from the VH formula into, well, a Van Halen "formula" song. Not that Sam isn't a great technical singer, because he certainly is, but his lyrics often are just too linear and elementary for my tastes.
Well Garyís lyrics are just frankly stupid. Fire In The Hole, One I Want, and Ballot or the Bullet are just three examples of some awful lyrics. Not just bad but also meaningless and just plain dumb. Iíd rather hear Samís corny lyrics than those really awful attempts to be poignant and deep that just come off cliched and trite.

Eh, that's cool, agree to disagree. I really like some of Ed's solos on that album. One I Want is another solo I like, probably the best on the album, and I like his slide solo on Ballot Or The Bullet along with Al's booming drum pattern during the solo.

But, yes, a strong producer was needed to reign in Ed's power mad indulgences and have all the band members contribute fully to the album like all the past albums and trim some unnecessary fat off pretty much all the tracks.

The best part of Van Halen 3 for me is that 30 second fade out at the end of Fire in the Hole. Why didn't they make that a whole song?

I like the vibe in Once, Ed finally letting his "Peter Gabriel" out. But for the lyrics, I couldn't tell you what it's about. Not getting Gary's point. A song like that could've had a cool story, a bit like Phil Collins did for "In The Air Tonight." It was not meant to be. Gary's spiritual stuff doesn't really come over well. Most of his Extreme stuff is quite different. I don't know what happened to him when he was in VH. Maybe aliens downloaded his brain.
