    Default How Many...Say I?

    Time to be ostracized...

How many say I don't loathe HMSI?

I don't loathe it. I love all Van Halen songs. Sure, it's towards the bottom of the list. Not many below it. "A Apolitical" is my least fave at the very bottom. I put YTTD below it, too, awesome solo and all.

I think it's a clever song, clever idea, clever title, clever lyrics, and yes, a "nice (wow this sounds annoying the way I'm saying it)" melody.

So, who wants to man up along with me? Gotta be at least one....? Don't "De-NY it!" hahaa.

I don't hate the song, and actually like the the piano playing and lyrics.
I think of it as another novelty tune for showing a different side of Ed's music, like BBB or CTBM.

I find it to be one of the worst songs ever recorded by a major act, and is the worst song, on one of the worst albums ever recorded by a major act.

    Outside of that it's fine.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Been a long time ...

On HMSI, if they cut it to one minute or went with no vocals at all, it would work.

Several songs on VH3 should have been shorter. Shorten HMSI and A Year and replace Once and maybe Josephina with Respect The Wind or something similar, you have a better album.

If by 'clever' you mean 'warm yellow piss on burnt toast,' then yeah, HMSI is clever.

Good call on the "novelty" and "different side" aspects.

Also good call on shrinking it down, too. I'd say just under 3 minutes would've worked.

Guess I should've said "clever lyrical theme" not lyrics themselves--but I'm sure that wouldn't change your mind with the piss-butter either way though haha.

The funny thing is, the biggest problem with the song isn't the lyrics, the theme, or the instrumentation...though all those aspects suck hairy goat balls nonetheless....the biggest problem is the most easily identified.

    Eddie ain't no lead singer.

OMG, the encore at Devore in '98 with that grand piano....was just...gawd. awful. Never heard Eddie booed before that, never since either. Blagggh.

Yeah it seemed like he got booed during the Chicago show too if you've seen the bootleg.

By the time they got to my neck of the woods they had given up on HMSI...thank God.

Unfortunately, America had given up on them by then too. Smallest VH crowd I've ever been a part of.

Always liked Midnight Phil's take on it, a "bad gospel song".
