    Our view of the art shouldn't be colored by decades of ego matches and petty grievances - I know it's hard. The band has fueled that fire time and again. But I guarantee you that when rock historians (hopefully such a thing will still exist) analyze VH's lyrics 50 years from now, they will conclude that lyrics didn't change that much going from one singer to the next.

    Totally missing the point. Ask a performer not a historian

    they played SOI on the opening night, I think that was the only time...

    Their job is to be professional. You are a hired person in a band. It's your job to sing the music of the band you're in. Gary understood this as did Ed at that time but Sam and Dave had to be petulant about it. You make a song your own. I find the historical excuses as to why it wouldn't work, to be comical.

    It's music...not some personal hangup.

    Well if they did play Dreams on 5/27/88 they dropped it after that show, which was also the first show of the tour.

    Either way, the version on RHRN was clearly recorded in 1992. Totally different sound than OU812 tour.

    Both things are true.

    Yes they played Dreams on 5/27/88. We are just lucky that a bootleg audio recorder was there to document it. Then they used Cabo, AFU and later Superstitious in the following months for the encore spot before Rock and Roll.

    Yes they recorded Dreams in the studio in late 1992 for the RHRN cd.

    Also they recorded a version of Dream in 1993 at the Whiskey for the Promo video on Mtv. Like was mentioned earlier, you can hear the difference from Ed right before the solo.

    +++

    I like little shit like this. Fun stuff with setlists and one of performances.

    They played snippets of My Generation and Young Man Blues in Sacramento late 1988 . It was pretty badass

    This site has Cabo Wabo listed instead of Dreams for that East Troy show.

    Setlist.FM is like Wikipedia. Anyone can edit it. There are many errors on it and incomplete sets. It is pretty good for about 90% accuracy....give or take.....

    If you go back a page or 2 here, I posted the setlist from the bootleg audience recording of this show. http://www.vhboots.com/27may1988b.html

    Yeah but who has the tapes?

    I’ve seen Cabo Wabo played a bunch in 1988.

    The 5/27/88 show was widely circulated on bit torrent sites about 10 years ago. Dime, JTT, TTD and VHtrading. I guess I got to go dig it out of the garage bins...lol....
