Default VH 1986-Very Early Japan TV Interview

I've had this on VHS for about 20 years but never knew how to transfer it over to the computer (to be fair, I never looked into it either), This is VH doing a very, very early interview with Sammy for Japanese Television in 86, video quality is low but it's still cool to see, I've never seen it mentioned before on here.

IMHO Al is fucked up in this entire video.....holy cow (watch around 13:28)

I know some people will bitch about something they say but whatever, I still think it's a cool watch AND it's got Montrose doing "I Got The Fire" which might be one of Sammy's most underrated and ignored songs he's ever done, that f'n song is great.

    Killer footage!!!! Thanks for sharing.
I love the part where the guys are headed for the stage, crowd noise is wild, then Ed starts noodling... Crowd goes berserk!

And that WCTBL clip towards the end? I recall being half a world away from my friends and family, and seeing that video. Goosebumps.

Hell, I even miss Van Hagar. Sad what they've become. I know, I know, they are healthy and happy...yadda yadda.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Never seen that.

There is something that happens in that footage that would be critical for a future VH documentary. This video contains the only footage I've ever seen of the band "standing in the wings" as Ed kicks into his dramatic intro soloing. Fucking amazing.

It's so cool because the guys are all just standing there very close together and Ed is just wailing like it's nothing to him and the other 3, while the crowd in St. Paul is losing their minds. The contrast is so ironic and a great insight into the industry.

One of the coolest VH-things I've seen in a long time.

    Thanks for posting!

Agreed. Thanks for posting! I love Big Al in these clips. (Especially swinging around those Louisville slugger sized drum sticks!) Great to see the band together in these clips and having a blast playing live.

Have you never seen the 'Unleashed' footage from '86? There's an even better scene of Ed noodling before the show...

Is that footage you're talking about filmed right beside the edge of the stage, or is it dressing room/warming up?

I thought this video was amazing because it was just seconds and just inches beside the stage entry point.

They are all just CASUALLY standing there (even Alex has his hands behind his back), and there's WW3 erupting in the crowd 20 feet away.

    Both.

After the dressing room stuff Ed and Sam walk through the halls and towards the stage. Ed even yells a ""Whooo!" to a couple of blondes. Pretty close up shot of Ed doing some tapping runs and pinch harmonics, just offstage with the rest of the guys.

Then you see him sliding up the low E and pulling off to the rumbling of the whammy bar depressesed so the strings are slack.... He does that a few times, and then they go out onstage. Awesome!

It's kind of intimate, yet I wish the footage of them in Toronto '95 had a similar scene before Right Now.

About the 28 minute mark starts the walk to the stage. Crazy how casually Ed starts shredding while the crowd goes insane
